Revitalash: Serious Fringe Benefits?

Brush your teeth, apply your eyelash grower, and jump into bed. There's apparently a new nightly method to getting those fluttery, Bambi-like lashes: Revitalash, an eyelash treatment made from a lash-plumping drug called latanoprost. Just apply it to the base of your upper eyelashes like eyeliner, and wake up to lavish lashes in two weeks. Revitalash isn't FDA-approved—latanoprost can permanently discolor the skin, an ophthalmologist told ALLURE—but the creator is a 25-year ophthalmologist himself. Adorably, he actually developed the treatment for his wife—who's eyelashes were damaged through intensive chemo—and donates a portion of proceeds to breast cancer research and education.

I love revitalash....I noticed a difference after using it every night for three weeks! If you forget one night no big deal. A friend of mine only remembers to use it a couple times a week and she has had great results as well:)

Anonymous said...

I thought that it was FDA approved. Maybe it just recently got FDA approval? Does anyone know?

Anonymous said...

it is not fda approved for the treatment of lash growth. revitalash recently pulled out the active ingredient "prostaglandin" in the new formulation. I doubt that past user will continue to notice their lash growth. there hasn't been any marketed clinical studies on the new revitalash formulation. so if you can still get your hand on the old formulation-get as much as you can...and keep it refrigerated to extend the potency.

Newsflash: Peter Thomas Roth is coming out with a new lash growth product called Lashes To Die For this summer, purported to be the second coming of Lash Growers. We're planning a Tried and Tested column on it that'll come out in a month or so, so stay tuned.

Revitalash was seized by the FDA because they had the DRUG Bimatoprost in it. Drugs are only available by prescription. Revitalsh has been reformulated and is now only a lash conditioner and doesn't grow hair. A new product has just been launched this week through Med-Spas, plasctic surgeons, derms., etc. that is called "Latanoprost" it is a hair growth drug. Only available by prescription and it's FDA and Clinically approved. No side effects and it WORKS. Ask your doc about it. Product is from a company called Global MDRx. Also check out www.thespamd.org for more info.

It's been 6 weeks and nothing has changed.. Revitalash sucks!

Blue Eyes Beware!! Revitalash does cause Darkening of the Iris and the skin to brown/black. This was reported in hazel eyes as well. Revitalash is not FDA Approved and infact it is being sued by Allergan (makers of Botox) because they have infringed on their product. Allergan has sued other companies that have used their ingredients.

Anonymous said...

Revitalash has lost a lot of customers because of the recent law suit against them. A lot of people have noticed changes in their eye colors and Revitalash does not comment on this side effect. Multiple people have sued and you might be entitled for it as well if you have used Revitalash. FDA is looking into this one as well. There probably will be a Class Action Lawsuit against Athena (Revitalash).

I've been using Revitalash since March08 and I definitely started noticing thicker, fuller and longer eyelashes about 2-3 weeks ago. It took longer that 3 weeks, but the result is dramatic!
No discoloration of skin or irises by the way.
Too bad about the FDA issue though, it is a great product.

blinggirl said...

Let's get these facts right. First of all, Revitalash was NEVEr seized. They voluntarily decided to change their formula to AVOID any future issues.
Second, the FDA does not approve cosmetics, only food and drugs. They seized another product because of a labelling issue. The companies can't claim to GROW anything, that would make the stuff a drug. It's made from a drug, it is not the drug itself.

I've used it for a year and a half. My lids aren't brown, my irises aren't brown and my lashes are amazing. Now I've found out that you can buy it from a company that gives some of the money to breast cancer stuff, so I am buying it now from
www.WTSRN.com They have great service too.
Anyway, the whole thing was blown out of proportion by the newpapers a while ago. All the products that grow lashes have some version of that medicine in it, but not the medicine itself, and when I called Revitalash and asked them, they told me that the anount of the version of that meeicine that's in the tube is so small, it would take almost a year of putting it directly into your eye to get what amounts to one drop of it. I LOVE MY LASHES, and I'm not giving them up!

I have been using the "new" revitalash since March and the results are dramatic-- longer, darker, thicker lashes. And I have noticed a faint darkening of the pigmentation at the base of my upper lashes, almost like very natural looking eyeliner... an added bonus in my opinion.
no more mascara, yipee!

As a pharmacist, I was surprised to learn that the active ingredient in Revitalash was Latanoprost. This is a drug used in the treatment of glaucoma, the most common product in Europe containing it is Xalatan eyedrops. A well known side effect(at least, it's well-known to people in my profession) is increased lash growth and changes in the pigmentation of the iris.It is a prescription-only product in most countries. These drops have long been used (abused?) in the modelling world for this lash-lengthening effect.

Revitalash used to work on my eyelashes. The new formula does not work at all. Revitalash also has side effects (darkening of your eye color especially hazel/blue eyes). Also decreased vision is another side effect. If you have any side effects, FDA has opened a case for Revitalash. Revitalash no longer works. Allergan is coming up with a new eyelash product that has the newest and the greatest ingredient to increase eyelashes. Revitalash copied allergans and got sued. Revitalash has changed the formula. Infact, Revitalash does not reveal the ingredients. Revitalash will be under the FDA investigation for not listing their ingredients.

i have used this product ( the original) revitalash for approx 3 months with a concentrated period of 6 weeks usage daily. My eyelashes have changed and grown significanly longer. incredible! i was very happy until i noticed a strange feeling in my eye movement..after dr check up i've discovered my eye pressure is borderline toward high eye pressure. i have annual checkups and am surprised to see that this is a common result of revitalash use. what to do now...i have stopped since about 2 weeks and No change in eye sensations. will my eye pressure go back to normal?? does anyone know..please comment. thank you in advance.

If you want your eyelashes to grow stronger and thicker NATURALLY, you all should try Talika's Lipocils. Everyone who uses Revitalash should really research the company and their products fully, before risking one's eye sight just for instant glam of beauty. Risking one's eye sight is pretty darn scary to me. That's why I use Talika's plus it's much cheaper around 40 dollars and it's a reputable brand from Paris, the beauty capital city! Talika, love your brand!

I am amazed at the ignorance of some of these comments - where do you get your information? The FDA is the FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION - there approval is not required. They do however, enforce their cosmetic guidelines which Revitalash does follow. If it was breaking any laws don't you think they would have been seized? Check your facts from an actual NEWS SOURCE, not TMZ. After reading these comments I called Athena Cosmetics and asked them what their ingredients are. I just received my product and their ingredients are listed on the box - Lantanaprost is not one of them. This is my second bottle - I have been using it for over a year. I LOVE MY LASHES! I too have experienced very light darkening in the place that I usually line my eyes - so extra bonus for me! There has been no darkenig of the inside of my eye, nor irritation. Just long, thick lashes. I strongly recommend you use this product - do not listen to me or anyone else - check it out for yourself. Plus, Revitalash gives a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer. Check out their news page on www.revitalash.com

Revitalash so far is the best i have ever used. FYI, Revitalash never got "seized" by the FDA; Jan Marini was. And after this happened, Revitalash re-formulated the product because it contained an ingredient which was potentially harmful for the eye. So the Revitalash that is sold now will not harm your eyes. I heard they are or might be sued by Allergan because one of the ingredients in the new formula is similar to theirs ("infringement"??), so Revitalash might have to come up with a new formula. SOOO since I am not sure what this new formula will be like, I am stocking uppp!!! I went online and bought three Revitalash. I put 2 in my fridge!! hehe!! When you buy Revitalash, make sure you buy the box that does not say "LONGER FULLER THICKER EYELASHES" because that is the OLD one (before Jan Marini got seized). You need to use the box which says "eyelash conditioner".

I have been thinking to start using Revitalash but after all these comments on this blog I have decided not to. There is another natural and healthy alternative simply call Virgin Castor Oil that helps to grow fuller and thicker lashes without any side effects,so i will better to stick to this one.

Anonymous said...

I too used revitalash over a year ago. My eyelashes grew thicker and longer. I received compliments all the time and loved it. I then started hearing that using the product could be harmful to your eyes. I had been using it for about 9 months and decided not to buy another bottle after it ran out.

A couple of months after I discontinued using the product I notice my eyelashes were falling out. Now I have bald spots on both eyes right in the middle and my eyelashes are not growing back. I have no idea if this has anything to do with me not using the product anymore or if it was caused by me using the product or something entirely different. I'm wondering if my lashes will ever grow back. I haven't noticed any growth for the last 2 months. It is very depressing for me to see my eyelashes like this.

I am currently using an eyelash conditioner called "Enormous Lash" and it is absolutely amazing. It contains NO prostaglandin which is the chemical that is causing the damage to peoples eyes and lashes! That is why Revitalash isn't FDA approved. Enormous Lash on the other hand contains no prostaglandin

After using Enormous Lash for 2 week i noticed a difference!! I had tried other products and had gotten many of the problems other people have described; but with the Enormous lash i got NO eye irritation or horrible smell and my lashes transformed from short and stubby to absolutely gorgeous!! what more can you ask for, SAFE and EFFECTIVE

Anonymous said...

Revitalash contains prostaglandins which are used in glaucoma medication. The FDA does not like it and is systematically shutting it all down.

I am very afraid to use prostaglandins on the lash line. I heard they cause 'growth' which can cause herpes/tumor like growths over time.

I am in love with the prostglandin and paraben free 'enormoush lash'. It is safe, does not irritate at all and made my lashes super long in 3 weeks!

RaquelV. said...

I heard that Revitalash had prostaglandin in it and was worried because of all the bad press. So I called the Corporate offices and they told me that it did not. Instead it has an ingredient called PROSTAMIDE. I have a friend that used that Enormouslash and she said that it doesn't work so I am sticking with my Revitalash.

It is interesting that the person who always posts as "Anonymous", who makes negative remarks about Revitalash, has none of her facts straight! Revitalash does not contain Latanoprost, is not being pulled by or being moved against or was ever seized by the FDA, nor is being investigated for not disclosing its ingredients. The ingredients are listed on the package. Allergan sued all the lash companies in a corporate bullying move to suppress competition for its new product which, I understand will require a prescription, which means you will have to pay for a doctor's visit first! The newer Revitalash formaulation, out since last December, has proven just as effective as the original; one has only to look at my wife and daughters to see the phenomenal results, with no adverse effects whatsoever!"Anonymous"-dead wrong!

It's funny that the only nice comments are coming from the company staff. They keep on insisting that there are no side effects, just long lashes. When you ask them how, they have no clue. Just Big claims.

Facts: Revitalash does cause serious side effects:

1. Darkening of the Iris (especially those that have hazel or blue eyes).

2. Darkening of the eye lids.

3. Decreased Vision (blurry vision)

4. FDA is looking at the product and has Revitalash to stop selling.

5. If FDA did not ask them to stop, Than why would revitalash change it's formula and not allow people to know what the ingredients are.

People need to think twice before buying revitalash. We are not the competitors of Revitalash. Just consumer advocates.

I've been using Revitalash since February of 2008, so have always used the reformulated version. I noticed an improvement almost immediately (within 2 weeks) and now my lashes are amazing - they look like a mascara ad, but I don't wear mascara any longer! They are longer (almost to my eyebrows), dark and curly, and very thick. I'm still on the first tube I bought, haven't had any darkening of the skin or iris, and no other side effects at all. This stuff rocks - I have given it to friends as gifts, I love it so much!

Dear Anonymous,

I was horrified to think that Revitalash is selling a product and not listing the ingredients so I called their Corporate office. It turns out that they print the ingredients on the box and even emailed me a list of their ingredients. I would call them so that you can have them on hand if anyone asks.

Regarding "Anonymous" aka 'consumer advocate':Of her 5 "facts", only #2 has any evidence;a few have noticed slight darkening of the lid ridge where R. is applied. None of her other "facts" are truth, just biased rumours! I checked all this out before trying myself it. It is safe, effective and I love it AND I am NOT a Revitalash staffer, as the "consumer advocate" claims!

I have used Revitalash for the past 8 weeks. I have to admit that my eyelashes were getting longer but at the same time, i noticed darkening around my eyes. I also noticed blurry vision when i used it in the morning. I found that prostoglandin is used for glaucoma and maybe the pressure change in my eyes caused blurry vision. I have stopped using it at this moment. I have an appt. with my eye doctor regarding this. Is this true or not about revitalash causing visual disturbances?

Memom said...

It's been 2 and a half weeks and my lashes are longer. No stinging, eyes are still green. Here's a plus. High-normal ocular pressure is down for the first time in years. Coincidence?

I have been using Revitalash for about 3 months. I used to have long eyelashes when I was younger, but as I get closer to 50 my lashes have gotten thin and very short. Using this product for 3 months, my lashes are so long that if they got any longer I would have to trim them and they are darker. My doctor asked me if these were my real eyelashes. This is a fantastic product and it works for me.

Hello. I just happened to read the blog regarding RevitaLash raising eye pressure. I am a physician, an ophthalmologist, and the creator of RevitaLash. I rarely respond blog postings, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to give you accurate information about RevitaLash.

I can reassure all of you that RevitaLash has been thoroughly safety tested; ALL of the ingredients in RevitaLash have been individually tested and found to be safe. And, RevitaLash certainly does not cause any elevation of intraocular pressure. RevitaLash is a great cosmetic product that actually works to beautify your lashes. We are proud of our company and our product, as well as our service to the pink ribbon community.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of mis-information and rumor on the internet, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to give you some accurate information here. For more information, visit our website. I really hope you can "Discover the beauty of your Natural Lashes" with RevitaLash. Thank you for all your support!

I loved RevitaLash at first, but then after a few months it stopped working and my eyelashes went back to thin, short, like they're barely there. I was so disappointed. :(

I called their toll free number and spoke with someone who told me that I was supposed to back down using it from nightly to 2-3 times weekly once I got the results I wanted. Thing is, how would I know when to stop? Meaning, my lashes had thinned out (age, I guess) and while RL made them longer and darker (maybe a little thicker) it wasn't dramatic. BUT, it was great for me while it lasted.

Of course the posts about darkening iris scares the heck out of me. I'm not sure what to do now. And the poster who said she has bald spots on her lashes... I don't want that to happen either.

SO confused.

I've been using it 3 times a week as I was instructed by the gal on the phone, but I don't see any results yet. Left eye, not too bad, but right eye... completely reverted back to its original lash state.

*sigh* :(

I wish I knew why my lashes reverted, even though I was still using the RL product. How do I know my lashes will respond again to RL?

Anonymous said...

Hey Ella,

I did the same thing! What I found out, though, was that my eyelashes naturally fall out (like my hair) so because I stopped using my Revitalash my eyelashes were not getting conditioned anymore. So, I started using it again every night for about two months and my eyelashes grew back! Then I did the same thing - I used it twice a week after that and my eyelashes are gorgeous!

Try that - you will sigh no longer :)

Abrielle said...

I have hazel eyes and have been using Revitalash for about 3 months now. My lashes grew very long and I needed to trim them a bit to keep them from hitting my sunglasses. I stopped using RL, due to just forgetting and my lashes went back to short and sparse again. I am now back to using it. I have not experienced a change in eye color or skin color. I have however, experienced blurred vision, but it seems to only be apparant when I am using the product. When I don't use the product, I can see better (I think). I read Dr Micheal's post, but he didn't give much useful information. Does it caused blurred vision? He didn't address that? will this cause permanent damage to my sight Dr? What is your medical opinion? Does it change the color of the iris? He didn't comment on that either. He just said the products are safe. Define safe? Meaning what? YOu won't go blind or die from it?? Saying it is "safe" doesn't make me feel better. Please respond with some useful feedback. Also you told us to check out your website. . .where is that?

Abrielle said...

I did find the website. I Wanted to add. . .if it COULD possibly cause blurred vision and permanent vision problems, wouldn't it be mentioned somewhere as a warning? I did read about skin discoloration, but nothing else.

I used Revitalash and loved it. Friends commented on my eyelashes not knowing I was using anything. I naturally have short light brown eyelashes. It was a miracle. Then I stopped using it for several months since my eyelashes were thick enough and hair was growing in my inner eye. I just started using the wand I had from a few months ago and it burned my eyelids. They were red and swollen and scabby. I stopped using it immediately and it took several days for the swelling and dryness, from what seemed like a chemical burn to go away. I don't know if this happened because it was old or what. I'm so bummed because it did really work and now I am back to my short light eyelashes. Has anyone else had this experience? I read on MedSpa that Latanoprost is a prescription drug that has the same side effects and is safe. Has anyone used it?

I am a 44 yr female whose eye lashes and brows were becoming thin and sparse. Started using Revitalash a month ago. Within a few weeks both areas began growing and getting thicker. Yet two days ago I noticed brown spots appearing on my blue eyes. I have discontinued using and can only hope I haven't permanently damaged my pretty blue eyes.

I have never used revitalash, but I'm going to try it soon. I just wanted to say that some of the comments that are saying bad things about the product are very calculating. As a new consumer wanting to try the product, I can see some of you aren't giving true correct information.

I used Revitalash about a year and a half ago. Although it worked better than I had even expected it to, my eyelids did darken where I had applied it, which was pretty unattractive. After hearing all the controversy about it, I don't think it's worth the risk. Although some short-sighted users may feel that its short term effects outweigh the possible hazards, I find it akin to the Elizabethan habit of using white lead paste to lighten their complexions. Hey, they didn't know the side effects and it made them look pretty...sound familiar? My advice: just use volumizing mascara.

I own a Spa in Canada, and we have sold RevitaLash for 6 months now. We have more than 20 clients on it, and have not had a single side effect. The eyes that were blue are still blue, and not a single person has mentioned blurred vision. I did have a person say that it caused some itch, but so do some of our skin treatments. The product was returned and replaced by the distributor and the maker of RevitaLash. It works like a charm, and we would recommend using it. I have a concern however, as some clients are telling us about online product, we are also hearing about counterfeit RevitaLash. So close to the eye, people need to be sure that they buy the real thing!

This product is AMAZING! I have tried everything from false eyelashes to having the eye lash extensions applied every 3 weeks.
I have tried Revitalash now since Dec 4th and in just a few weeks have noticed an incredible difference in length and volume. I don't have fluttery lashes yet, but I am hoping to get more length the longer that I use it.

I have blue eyes-I have not noticed any darkening.

I also have permanent eye liner so with these lashes and the permanent eye liner I now have an amazing natural look that doesn't require a whole lot of work in the mornings to get ready!

Thanks so much to all of you for the information. I was going to buy Revitalash, but after reading your comments, I not going to. It is too scary. I would be so upset if my blue eyes started turning brown, or, worse, if my vision were affected. It's not worth it.

To be beautiful is a risk, whether it's botox or revitalash, there is always going to be pros & cons. Only u yourself can decide what u want. I will continue using Revitalash to see what results I get.

I used the "old" Revitilash formula (which contained the glaucoma drug, Bimataphrost) and had gorgeous long lashes. I have hazel eyes, but had no problem with eye color change though I did read the glaucoma drug can change eye color. I did notice a slight reddening near the lash line, but it was easily covered up with eyeliner. I'm getting ready to order the new formula, which shouldn't have any side effects. I only hope it will have the same great results of fuller lashes. I would caution people who order from random sites to make sure they are getting the new formulation, and not the old one.

There is another product available on the market called BeautylashMD. It is available in three sizes, and priced much more competitively than Revitalash. Upon use I have experienced stronger lashes, thicker and longer length lashes. The price is about 30% less than the same size bottle of Revitalash. It is formulated in Germany, similar actives, with less stinging as I have used both. The manufacturers also have a wonderful lip plumper and paraben free skin care therapy.

Allergan is coming to the market with a product, recently approved by the FDA marketed as Latisse. In this economy and all similar active ingredients stemming from side-effects (albeit positive ones from gluacoma drug) I would opt for the lower priced alternative. I read somewhere that Beautylash has done clinical trials that show improvement in length, and fullness. The product can also be used on eyebrows from over-zealous plucking!

Anonymous said...

For all those that are interested, I went to see my esthetician today and she said all her revitalash was replaced by Beautylash - she switched. I understand the company is offering far more competitive pricing, and offer's to Spa's and salons for their clients - value for money.

I am an aesthetician and have sold RevitaLash for about a year and a half. I have used it for longer than that and have had absolutely no side effects. My lashes are long and thick and I am constantly getting compliments. My patients love the product and we can't keep it on the shelf.

Do not listen to the people saying that it is dangerous, going off the market, etc. They need to get their facts straight because they have no idea what they are talking about. I will say that 2 weeks is not always long enough to see results. It took me 6 weeks and my mom 9 weeks. But that is the longest I have ever seen it take.

I have been using revitalash for 4 weeks nightly as directed, however there is no improvement in lash fullness, length or darkness. At this point, I don't believe the product works and there is no guarantee listed on the product or my the seller. I think it probably worked great when it contained Bimatoprost. So, I'm out 120.00. I am going to look into Latisse which is FDA approved but needs a doctors perscription.

I have been using Revitalash for 7 weeks and didn't notice a difference until the fifth week. Then I noticed my lashes getting softer, fuller and longer. I'm 61 and have always had short lashes so it is a great change for me. I did experience some burning in the beginning but I stopped using so much and that didn't happen again. I have seen no discoloration around my eyes. I purchased this at my eye doctor's office, so feel confident about it's safety, but it never hurts to be cautious! I have blue/green hazel eyes and would hate to have the color change. So I am watching that closely!

I have read about Glaucoma treatments being used in these products. Does this mean that these products have drugs in them? I am just curious if the FDA does tests on them to be sure that they are safe? I want to try them, but am worried about if they are going to damage my eyes. A couple years ago Jan Marini had one of these, my sister was using it. Next thing you know she could not get it, and the FDA took it off the market. Did the FDA change the rules since then, or do these companies not use drugs? What gives?

Only (2) products that grow lashes are legal and FDA compliant, both must come from physicians. No, you don't have to pay for a doctor's visit. Posted from the FDA's web portal. "If a product alters the structure of the human body, it is a drug and drugs must be dispensed by physicians" Lengthening the lashes is altering the structure of the human body- this is simply the law. The ingredient that grows lashes is a prescription ingredient, known as Prostaglandins. Sure, it's a cosmetic effect, but the drug has other effects and must be monitored by a physician. Allergan's product is Latisse. It is 0.3% Bimatoprost. This is the same concentration as their glaucoma medicine: Lumigan. The ACCP, the nation's largest cosmetic compounding physicians organization, compounds Latanoprost using only 60% of the therapeutic dose, affording longer lashes without side effects. OTC products either don't work or are illegally formulated using prescription ingredients. Please visit www.TheSpaMD.com for UNbiased cosmetic reviews.

How do Prostaglandins cause lash growth? By augmenting the Anagen phase of the lash growth cycle.

Latisse is the new drug by Allergan that is FDA approved for eyelash growth. It is through prescription only. It can cause skin discoloration and can make green or blue eyes turn brown. The skin discoloration is reversable but the iris pigmentation is not.

The ocular adverse events and ocular signs and symptoms reported in 5 to 15% of the patients on XALATAN Sterile Ophthalmic Solution in the three 6-month, multi-center, double-masked, active-controlled trials were blurred vision, burning and stinging, conjunctival hyperemia, foreign body sensation, itching, increased pigmentation of the iris, and punctate epithelial keratopathy.

Local conjunctival hyperemia was observed; however, less than 1% of the patients treated with XALATAN required discontinuation of therapy because of intolerance to conjunctival hyperemia.

In addition to the above listed ocular events/signs and symptoms, the following were reported in 1 to 4% of the patients: dry eye, excessive tearing, eye pain, lid crusting, lid discomfort/pain, lid edema, lid erythema, and photophobia.

The following events were reported in less than 1% of the patients: conjunctivitis, diplopia and discharge from the eye.

During clinical studies, there were extremely rare reports of the following: retinal artery embolus, retinal detachment, and vitreous hemorrhage from diabetic retinopathy.

The most common systemic adverse events seen with XALATAN were upper respiratory tract infection/cold/flu, which occurred at a rate of approximately 4%. Chest pain/angina pectoris, muscle/joint/back pain, and rash/allergic skin reaction each occurred at a rate of 1 to 2%.

So let me get this straight, there are systemic side effects with the glaucoma meds?....... upper respiratory tract infection/cold/flu, which occurred at a rate of approximately 4%. Chest pain/angina pectoris, muscle/joint/back pain, and rash/allergic skin reaction each occurred at a rate of 1 to 2%. I understand that some of these companies are now putting this stuff in hair products, in higher concentrations and these are going to cover larger surface areas. Is the FDA aware of the systemic risks ...do you want to mess with Angina and vascular constriction?

I'm understanding from reading these comments that Revitalash no longer contains bimatoprost and still works for some people. If Latisse is FDA approved and does contain bimatoprost, what makes it any safer just because the FDA approved it? Sounds like if people are afraid of the side effects that bimatoprost "might" cause that they shouldn't use Latisse?!

I use revitalash since December 2008. I found it on a visit to a doctor's office. I thought it was safe because it is being sold by a well known dermatologist. It definitely costs more $175 for a tube. My lashes would not grow back after I had lash extension, but after using revitalash consistently every night after 3 months, i saw a big improvement.. My lashes grew back, finally! I was so happy but there is a problem---I also now have discoloration on the eyelids and obvious irritation, swelling and thinning on the skin where the revitalash gets in contact with. I would like to stop it now and try other products. thank you for eeryone who took time to wite the blogs---i read them all. I can easily get prescription for Allergan's Latisse but is it safer just because it is FDA approved??
The search is on.....

I used Revitalash for about one year prior to the change in formula. Darn FDA! Everything was fine until they came to "rescue" us. The Revitalash gave me fantastic lashes, and a slight darkening of the skin right at the eyelid (which I sort of liked). The long lashes gave me a younger look and I loved it. A routine visit to my eye surgeon gave my eyes a perfect bill of health and his comment that he didn't think the ingredient would cause me harm. After Revitalash changed its formula, I quit getting the fantastic results, quit using the product, and my eyelashes went back to their usual skimpy selves. I was so excited when Latisse came out. My eye surgeon gave me the prescription and I have been using it about 12 weeks. The results are NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD as the original formula Revitalash, but there is some improvement, so I will probably keep using it. The applicators with Latisse are ridiculous and one wouldn't really want them near their eyes, so I use a good eyeliner brush. The experience overall has been one big disappointment. I miss the good old days . . . Allergan (the maker of Latisse) apparently didn't consult women or cosmetic professionals in their quest to get their product out.

Hi Girls!!!
I just came across Revitalash recently, and was thinking of using it to get those fluttery lashes. However the £95 pricetag is a bit out of range to be honest. A tip that l can pass on to you girls is that you can just massage a couple of drops of castor oil used with a clean cotton bud into ur eyelashes every night and that will make ur lashes grow too. I know it is commonly used as a constipation remedy, but l've used it myself and l can assure you it has no side effects whatsoever. Also if u want ur eyebrows to go thicker/fuller then u can use castor oil in the same way on brows as well. You can get it from any pharmacy and it is so much cheaper compared to any cosmetic product claiming to grow ur lashes. Give me some feedback on how u get on with it. Trust me. Im a beautician, lolz. x x x x

I've never posted on any of these sites, but have been reading everyone's comments and feel that I need to add my experience as well. I have used 2 tubes of revitalash and had wonderful results. I have since used a tube of it and lost a lot of eyelashes and they are no longer long. They are very short and I got no results. I spoke with one of my friends the other day about it and she informed me that the same thing happened to her and that an ingredient was taken out. I will not be using this product anymore as it doesn't work any longer. I am assuming the people that are still getting results have their hands on the old product, before it was altered.

I'm an asian girl. Both of my sister-in-law had been using revitalash, and I can see the difference from them now.. their lashes are much longer and thicker. I was amazed, and no side affects at all. When they just bought the bottles and ask me if i want to use it too.. but they scared me by warning that if I do use it, just becareful not to use it when I wear contact lenses becuz my eyes might get burn from the product if I accidently drop into my eyes so I didn't want to take the risk. Now, I don't know if I should be regetting or not for not buying it when the price was only $80 rising up to $120 now. The big part is that the price is not the problem, but after reading so many comments from you people saying there are side affects, I have to think again for the second thoughts or I should buy something better and safe when use..

I have a new tube of Revitalash that a friend brought me when she came to Mexico, where I live. I've been using it for only two weeks, no side effects or changes yet...that's Ok. However, my concern would be what happens when I stop using it? Someone on this forum said her lashes fell out when she stopped using it!! Yikes!! Not so sure I want to get hooked on something I have to use the remainder of my life. Has anyone else stopped using this product and had loss of lashes...permanent or temporary? It's not like I can buy some more here in Mexico. Any advise would be appreciated.

I'm asian and have virtually NO eyelashes; very few, very thin and very short. If I wore mascara, it wouldn't do anything because I virtually had nothing to work with. My parents bought Revitalash for me this past Christmas, I didn't actually start using it until 2 weeks ago to see if it worked. (I'd also worn fake lashes) This stuff works. My lashes are visible, there are more of them! and when I put on mascara, I can actually see the difference! So instead of wearing fake eyelashes, I'm actually out trying new mascaras to see which ones work the best. At least I have lashes to "build" on now. I love this stuff! So far I've seen no side effects and will continue to use it. It works!

I was looking at revitalash for eyebrow growth--overplucked one too many times. I can say this about the glaucoma medicine--I have been on glaucoma drops for five years. My eyelashes were always pretty good, but they are now really, really long and full for someone sixty years old. My doctor told me the side effects of my green eyes turning brown were very rare. And a side effect of glaucoma drops would not be raised ocular pressure--they bring my pressures down. Still, I will check with my doctor on revitalash--I would not want to double up.

Hello. I’ve recently just started using Enormous Lash, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness, but it is currently paraben and prostaglandin free. It HAS BEEN reformulated. The old formula contained prostagladin, but the new DOES NOT at this time. I have green eyes, so had no interest in taking a risk with something that might alter my eye color, or cause vision problems, etc. I have read many reviews about the new formula, and many people appear to have great results with it. I, personally, would still be too afraid to use Revitalash, or any of the current products on the market with prostaglandin in them. Just one word of warning to those who do; my son was born with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome, and aortic stenosis. Basically, the left side of his heart and his aorta were too small to function. He received a heart transplant, but until a heart became available (he waited for 3 mos.), prostaglandin was the drug used to keep the ductus of his heart open. BTW, they only used a couple of drops daily to do that. In my opinion, a drug that is strong enough to do something of that nature is far too dangerous to use as a beauty product. We were told that there ARE many side effects to prostaglandin 14 years ago when our son was receiving this drug. We were also told that it is a powerful drug. I am not trying to scare anyone, just recommend that you do your research. The current ingredients in Enormous Lash are: Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerine, Potassium Olivoyl PCA, Arginine, Alanyk Glutamine, Saccharomyces/Copper Ferment, Phospholipids, Sphingolipids, Panthenol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Isopentyl glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Trisoium EDTA. I purchased mine at bebeautiful.com, joined the loyalty program, and received 10% off. I received free shipping, so paid $85.50 total. Hope that helps! :o))

I am a huge fan of revitalash, and have used it on and off for a year- but have noticed yellowing of the WHITES of my eyes. I know that there is possible darkening of the retina (my eyes are brown so not worried there) but has anyone experienced yellowing or discoloration of the whites? Any thoughts are helpful! Trying to find the culprit!

I bought a bottle of Revitalash a few days ago and used it twice. I can ALREADY see dark circles where I applied it. I will never use it again. I also noticed my eyes felt dry and that can't be good! I am going this weekend to get semi permenant lash extentions because it seems much safer... I really value my eyesight and even taking a chance seems very silly to me

Anonymous said...

I got my lash extention and I love them! I highly recommend you try extentions before using revitalash!

I have read posts and comments on this board and others about RevitaLash, and it becomes evident that there are some people posting with hidden agendas. These people reply to their own comments. They also mention other products by name pretending to be introducing them to you, then they provide a pile of tag lines with specific benefits. It is more than transparent that these clowns think they are fooling readers. and benefits to consumers. An honest straw pole of RevitaLash users would likely yield great results to be sure. There are usually solid reasons for why a company and product are regarded and accepted so well. If you are thinking about using RevitaLash, then that is the one to try.

Good Afternoon-
As a Licensed and practicing Master Aesthetician I offer the following:
I have used the old formula of Revitalash as well as the new. It has worked beautifully for 2 years.

The multi physician practice I work in carries Allergan's Latisse. I will neither use, sell or reccomend Latisse for my clients!!! One of our nursed had her Baby Blues turn Brown permanently. The packaging of Latisse is ridiculous. Seperate brushes and it only lasts a month @ an average cost of $125.00. The Revitalash lasts on average of 6 months or more. I have Green eyes and they still are- I have experiened some pigment changes on the upper lid (darkening) but I don't mind as it just looks like a bit of eyeliner.
Ladies, I've always purchased my Revitalash off of E-bay and never payed more than $75. You simply check the reputation of the seller 1st. PS- Had to actually trim my lashes due to hitting my sunglass lenses!!! It is with the utmost respect and honesty I submit this to you.

Firstly, I am an optometrist who has experience in prescribing Latisse and its active ingredient as a glaucoma drug, Lumigan. I think it's important for Revitalash users to realize that Revitalash is a consumer cosmetic product. It does NOT grow eyelashes. It does however, give the APPEARANCE of fuller, thicker eyelashes (similar to mascaras). There is no active ingredient in Revitalash to actually GROW the eyelash. That said, users can continue to believe what they would like to believe.

I have been using Revitalash for one year now (the new formula) and people actually stop me and ask me what mascara I use! I love the product, and found a skin care center online that sells it for only $115.00!! Just email them on the site and they will take your payment information and send it out that day. They are seriouskin.net

Unfortunately, I can relate to what is being said about lashes falling out after no longer using the product. It's really crap, my right eye is really sparse. Before using this product I would simply curl my lashes with an eyelash curler, using no mascara or anything else, and therefore I thought this would be a good product for me. But now I don't even have long enough lashes to do that.
I will try Virgin Castor Oil like someone else in this thread recommended, hoping it will safely increase the growth of my lashes.

Addressing a previous comment, FDA in fact DOES have a say in the cosmetic industry-the FOOD, DRUG & COSMETIC ACT was passed in 1938 giving them this power.

For those who really want the same results they saw with the older product, a medication (as it SHOULD be called) is now available by prescription only, called Latisse for growing eyelashes-I would strongly recommend asking a physician if it is safe and appropriate for you rather than trying to get a hold of an old product that has been discontinued for good reason.

I agree with the last comments, but would go even further. The public should consider anything with Vit A Acic,Retinols or a variety of skin treatments sold by companies like Jamieson as medications as well. Lets also be careful to oversee medical products like Botox as well, and be sure that only Medical professionals are treating patients with them. While we are at it lets define what a drug is, you see water can be considered a drug if it has a medical claim associated with it like; "TREATS DEHYDRATION". If a company claimed this new breakthrough H20 re-hydrates, they would need to provide clinical data to the FDA, and the next thing you know you have an indication for dehydration treatment and H2O is a drug. From what I have read about these cosmetic agents, they have been on the market for years now and all combine these agents have millions of client days of safety, it is likely they have more client years of use than even Latisse. One has to wonder if these cosmetics, have a better track record of safety than say Latisse with its limited clinical data and very little consumer use?

I love Revitalash. I have been using this product for over two years. The tube has lasted over one year after applying nightly to both my top and bottom lashes. This product has never irritated my eyes and I have no eyelid discoloration. I don't know if the formula has been changed and will not know until I purchase another tube (which I will). I always receive compliments on my beautiful long lashes.

I love Revitalash! My lashes are much longer, thicker and darker!!!
I get compliments everyday. I do not have any side effects and it started working after 1 month...now I only use it as maintenance a few times a week!

I have heard, that Revitalash can be used on eyebrows? It this true? I'am trying to fill out my eyebrows. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

for the user who stated that the active ingredient in Revitalash is PROSTAMIDE:

Ahhh... I found your original post:

" RaquelV.
