Once Upon A Starry Night...

For those of you who are truly beauty obsessed (and I mean you have to think waaaay back for this one) you might remember when Chanel came out with a limited edition color in the mid-90's called Ciel De Nuit. It was a navy color packed with silvery flecks of stardust, and it was designed by a reader of popular teen magazine. I had a bottle of this wonderfulness, and I am 100% shamelessly bragging when I tell you that I still have it. Yes, it's true, and I'm very proud of it. Not only that, but somehow over the course of around 13 years or so, the polish is still very wearable and the bottle is in one piece (knock on wood!). I only bring this up for 2 separate reasons: One, bragging rights, and two, navy is about to be huge on the fashion scene all over again (see It's all Navy, Baby). This makes me excited because not only will I be en vogue, but every time someone compliments my nail color, I can tell my polish's amazing history. For those of you naysayers who don't believe that I do still in fact possess this much-coveted item, I'll be posting a pic first thing Monday morning, showing off my fabulous modern-vintage nails, alongside the original bottle. Frankly, I don't care if this polish dries up and dies, I'll never throw it out. Do you have a product that you can't bring yourself to throw out? Spill the details, girl. We're dying to know! —Brianne Rieck, Sephora

This post inspired me to go hunting through my makeup collection. I recently ransacked this box of makeup, tossing anything that wasn't essential, to make room for their new replacements. (grin) One thing that survived this, and a great many other house cleaning assaults is my tube of Gash lipstick by Urban Decay. This was actually purchased back when you could only find Urban Decay products in punk rock tee shirt shops or by mail order. I had some pretty crazy shades back then. I've since parted ways with my olive green and blue glitter lipsticks, but Gash survived the years getting by being that magnificent metallic shade of red that I never could part with.

Yes! I don't know why, but I thought someone might mention Gash. I have no idea why, but I guess you read my mind. Enjoy it!

My "can't throw away" is a pot of Face Stockholm lip gloss in a grunge-era nude shade, that I picked up in the summer of 1997. Though there's no chance in hell that the shade will EVER look good on me, I still keep it, secretly hoping that someday I'll be cool enough to pull off heroin chic. I won't.

I am commenting on this post way after the fact...I had held onto my bottle of Vamp from 1994 for a LONG time...in fact I lost track of it when I moved in 2005. I lost my bottle of Ciel de Nuit LONG ago...and I've payed the skin off my behind to get another bottle of it! I wish I had taken better care of my old polishes!

My Urban Decay "Gash" liquid liner survived. It's kind of dried up and useless now, but it is funny to see that it's a popular item to hang onto :)
