Inside a Secret Spritzing Society ...

Everyone knows the perfume world is a secretive, insider-only world—few have the chance to actually know what goes on firsthand. But lucky for the rest of us, The New York Times perfume critic Chandler Burr wrote an insider book—The Perfect Scent: A Year Inside The Perfume Industry In Paris and New York—where he takes us behind-the-scenes in the creation and launch of two very chic-chic perfumes. He starts his perfuming P.I. work in Paris, where perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena is creating a luxe perfume for Hermes; then, he's in New York City with Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker, chronicling the takeoff of her celebrity fragrance, Lovely. The whole spritzing story is on sale January 22—keep your eyes (nose?) peeled for it. —Jessica Anderson, Sephora
