Sad news to report: Shu Uemura, founder of Tokyo-based Shu Uemura Cosmetics, has passed away at the age of 79. A makeup mastermind—perhaps best known for his unparalleled eyelash curler, which even gets shout-outs in Hollywood films—Uemura got his start as a sub-in for Shirley MacLaine's makeup artist who got sick during the filming of "My Geisha."
