MYSTIC TAN: Now in Your Bathroom!

Remember life before the spray tan? We can, but we'd rather not. Mystic Tan, inventors of the world's first automated sunless tanning booth in 1998 (developed in a garage in Addison, Texas!), made safe, believable tans available at the push of a button, and created a new pre-wedding, pre-red carpet, and pre-beach cottage industry. Today, they deliver about 20 million sunless tans Mystic Tan delivers per year!

Now, the company is taking it a step further, making that same rich, goof-proof tan available in your bathroom. Announced with a big article in today's WWD, after it launched on Sephora.com yesterday (see our Product Patrol roundup), Mystic Tan products are sold exclusively at Sephora.

Designed to be totally goof-proof, (read: a smooth, streak-free, natural-looking tan every time), the ingenious Face and Body systems use patented technology to deliver a glow that's as gorgeous as the one you'd get at your local spa. It's actually the same formula used in spas, slightly modified to remove, as Mystic Tan creator Ricky Croft calls it, the "human error" in self-tanning.

Croft explains: "The chemistry of your skin varies daily, and it also varies by genetics. Our pre-tan skin conditioners (face & body) correct for these differences in skin pH, moisture level and amino acid balance with a proprietary complex called Nutra-Mist. In doing that, it accelerates absorption, guards against over-application and an uneven tan. It automatically adjusts skin to best utilize the sunless tanning product, no matter your skin type. And it ensures that when you recommend this product to a friend their tan will look as good as your tan."

The Sunless Face and Body Spray comes in the "best spray can ever," says Croft. "We found this amazing can that uses compressed air to force out the formula in a light, even mist, so there are no harsh propellants--just air in a rubber bladder. The spray stream is easy to control and it spray continuously from the beginning to end, ensuring an even tan that's free of streaking."

But here's our fave proof to the power of this product: A normally non-makeup wearing and rather, well, tad pasty, coworker walked into a meeting yesterday looking relaxed, well-rested and glowing. A few of us asked her if she'd gone away for the weekend, and she smirked. "No, it's MYSTIC TAN, and it's the best thing that's ever happened to my complexion."

And with that, we placed our order.....

How is it different than other "spray tan in a can" products? They all claim basically the same thing, so it's really hard to distinguish between them.

How can any one distinguish the products. There are many in the market and are being used in a daily routine. Regarding the 'sunless face and body spray' can't tell anything as I've no idea about it.

This one has the pre-prep products, which is key for scoring a goof-proof tan. Another aspect that's key is the fact that it sprays a steady stream of tanner. I've tried many that wane or sputter with their flow, and i then must rely on distributing the extra tanner with my own hands, which never goes well. Although I would still rub in the formula after spraying, I'm starting of with an even layer, thus I'm that much more likely to get an even tan.

I actually first tried Mystic Tan in mid January, spritzing it on really quickly and very late, the night before I hopped a plane to mexico for a friend's wedding. In my head I thought "this is really stupid...i'm going to be streaky and orange-handed tomorrow." But when I work up I was quite pleasantly surprised--shocked, even. My legs were a really flattering, natural looking shade of bronze. It was dark enough to cover up my leg veins, but still look real. No streaks or uneven areas. It was awesome, and gave me confidence to wear shorts--which I normally never would.

The products can't be distinguished. Whether it is a can or a spray every thing is the same.

This sounds great! I'll have to hunt this down at my local Sephora. Thanks for the tip!

I'm guessing the products have to be pretty good since Mystic has their formula down. Very excited to try these out. Thanks!

hey guys! i'm fresh here. my name's emily and i'm from Portland.

i like baking and baking friends. oops i mean making. hahah.

umm i want to create unusual friends! hopefully a true strong houseboy like johnny bravo to
sweep me off of my feet and pick me up and shake me like a baby! (...just kidding!)
i reckon i like watching flick picture show trailers more than i like watching movies
and i wish that people would condense all movies to 3 minutes on youtube.

if you want to give me a back massage i can pay you in jellybeans or uh.. nevermind.. i can pay you in jellybeans ONLY.

i'm a gorgeous good person. i don't care about anything. except for myself.

it's shiveringly cold here during the winter and most of the year, so how does a trim innocent girl stay|presentable?

i seldom get to go outdoors so i use spray tan. it works like witchcraft and it covers up whiteness.
so don't worry my cherry cheek friends (you don't have to lie and mention that you put on too much blush anymore!) ok anyway.
i have planned boys swooning over me and let me tell ya.. i'm running| out of jellybeans ;) ;) sooooooooooooo

I haven't seen this person in a long time but I still miss her sometimes.

Is this normal? I haven't spoken to her in over 8 months but I occasionally just feel like I still miss her.
