When I was in college, there was a crowd of chic-ie-las that everyone called "the Glitter Girls." They got the moniker from the sheer fact that they seemed to douse themselves in—you guessed it—glitter. Eyes, lips, shoulders, you name it; they were constantly a-glow in a wash of glistening particles. And if memory serves me right, they tramped around campus formals sporting sparkling tiaras. Given the fact that we attended a liberal arts school in Maine, the Glitter Girls looked a little silly among the Polar-fleece and hiking boot clad, Phish-listening populace. Since then, I've associated the princess crowns with whimsy and folly and I've never really thought adults would wear them (for lack of a better term) off-campus. But—as my bf has pointed out on many an occasion—I'm not always right. It seems that these days, in addition to being a must-have accessory for brides, the tiara is having a bit of a coming out party. The girls at Fashionista
