Ladies, I'd like to ask you an important question.
A few weeks back, we spilled the beans on the dark lip trend coming this fall. While I'm not putting my coconut-flavored lipgloss away for the summer just yet, it's time to start thinking very seriously about this trend.
Is it a oui! oui! or a non non?
Obviously, a girl can easily go Big Drama with this color, as Emily The Dark Lip Tester proved last week.
But we gave her a bigger challenge: Give us the everyday wearable version of dark lips. Using Smashbox's coming-this-July High Shine Lipgloss in Sultry, Em just swiped on the gloss, toned down the eye makeup, and went to work - in finance! Dark lips and all!
Personally, I'm in the "Yes, I'll wear that" camp because dark lips = lazy makeup. Even with only the barest minimum of makeup, dark lips pull a face together.
So now it's the million pounds of pigment question: Are dark lips a yes or a no? Would you wear this? And if so, how dramatic would you make it? And if not, why not?

yes. i'll wear that.
YESSSSSSSS!! I love that shade she has on...what is it? Her teeth look so white.
...and her eyes look v/ bright. I would wear too.
Count me in! Dark lips make my eyes look bigger and my teeth whiter!
Exotic and a bit mysterious. I love this look!
I would so like to have lips like that. I'll try it.
undecided! the other looks were too goth but this one looks ok
I still say NO.
absolutely YES!
YES, so cute, but i might tone it down with a gloss version instead.
The looks Emily did are gorgeous and totally wearable. I do think I want both smashbox products (the lipstick and gloss). I will wait until FALL weather though, once the days cool off. IMO it's too hot to be wearing those colors right now. But one caveat, I *do not* like the "high fashion" version of this look, ie the looks that wear shown during the fall runway shows. Those lips are way too dark and do not look natural, good, or wearable on anyone, including models.
I agree - I think the high fashion version of dark lips is way too severe for street. But I actually like the wearable look - I'm starting to love the way bold lips look with a clean face.
vamp it up! Although I don't feel that dark lips are suitable at the workplace... unless you're in a relaxed or glitzy job. Some people just can't handle all of the glam!
I think she looks ridiculous.
