I visited Sephora on my lunch break to buy zit cream. On my way to pay, I spotted Hourglass, a brand I had not yet tried, but had always been curious as to what treasures lie within their polished packaging. An Hourglass rep happened to be visiting the store and I was lured in with her disarming smile and jumpy Australian accent. We began on safe ground: Lip Gloss. She explained how Extreme Sheen has protective SPF and relaxes onto the lips like a balm so your strands don’t get stuck. High shine but no stick-age...super!
As I was about leave, lip gloss in hand, she asked me if I had ever tried their foundation. Now, I’ll rub my cheeks tawny with your ‘light-reflecting’ mineral bronzer, slick on your ‘so summer’ fuchsia lip gloss, and even try your ‘makes eyes sparkle’ yellow mascara, but my foundation, don’t even think about it. I’ve had the same one for 10 years and it’s the base of my entire beauty routine—it’s glorious and no one shall touch it.
Maybe it was because I had yet to ask her where she and her Aussie (boy) friends hang out in the city or the fact that my vanity was long gone (I woke up with a colossal ZIT…eww), but I decided to stay and let her rub Veil Fluid Makeup all over my face so I could get, as she said, ‘the full effect’.
She went to work, nodded with approval, and handed me a mirror so I could see for myself. It’s hard for me to put into words, but I had never seen my complexion so smooth and flawless since, well, never. It was as if my face was in a foundation funk I didn’t even know about and it was being jolted back to life—it had the luster and dimension I’d always wished for, but thought my skin type was incapable of achieving. She tried to tell me about all of the advanced technology and skin benefits this best-selling product has to offer, but I was too busy looking at myself in the mirror from different angles.—Jennifer Appenrodt
Read below to see what’s behind this fluid’s veil (it's really impressive!):
- Matrixyl is the active component and helps restructure and repair the skins cellular production while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Matrixyl is similar to Retin-A, but serves as a much milder, non-irritating alternative.
- Silicone-based formulation that provides extended wear (amazing on sweaty oily skin!).
- Has SPF 15 and vitamins A & E, which nourish the skin with essential antioxidants.
- Has Skin Tightener ST, which is a natural plant and marine-based product that VISIBLY lifts, tightens, and smoothes (it’s like colored Botox in a bottle!).
- 100% free of oil, fragrance, and PARABENS!
*Stay tuned for my interview with W. Coast Account Exec, Tosca. She’ll dish on her fave Hourglass products and reveal when a special summer something (that I CAN’T wait for) launches!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else tried this? WHAT DID YOU THINK????????
I haven't tried the foundation, but I have the gloss in Reflect and the bronzing duo in Brazilian...both are great quality and well worth the money [well, they were gifts, but if they weren't, I'd damn sure pay for them].
I have not tried this foundation yet, but it sounds amazing. I do love the gloss too. The consistency is amazing and it really is "unsticky."
I also have a deep, inexplicable love for The Monkees. There. I said it.
love this brand and i'm obsessed with this product! so happy it's getting the attention it deserves!!
