A few weeks ago, guest blogger Monica Mingo reminded us: We've got a lot of Phyto fans out there !(PSST! Wanna see what B&TB readers have to say about Phyto? Scroll down!)
Phyto is a brand known for it's natural, plant-based products that seriously work mini miracles. No surprise, considering founder Patrick Ales' lifelong interests in beauty and botanicals. He's been mixing up fresh formulas made from potent, active plants since 1956.
Want to know what makes this brand amazing? We let Patrick Ales himself explain.
B&TB: How do you ensure your products meet such high standards of efficacy?
PA: First and foremost, all the primary resources we use go through rigorous toxicology testing by a famed certified pharmacist-toxicologist. The tests take place in our company’s independent laboratories and assess the effectiveness of the products. These tests could be scientific tests on the skin and hair, which are completely independent from our process. The product then goes through an assessment of the comfort in its use and the effectiveness on clients, some whom are famous, at the Patrick Alès salon (in Paris).
B&TB: How do you choose the plants you use?
PA: We research plants, learning what part is the most effective: root, leaf, bark, and also the botanical molecule found in that particular part of the plant.
B&TB: Which of your products are your favorites?
PA: My favorites are Phytopolléïne (100% botanical with an essential oil base), Phyto 7, and the various hair-loss products (Phytoaxil, Phytocyane). These products are all the result of many years of research. Oh, and Phytodéfrisant: a true original
B&TB: You're especially known for moisturizing. Can you give us some of your favorite moisturizing products, and tell us what the magic ingredients are?
PA: The hydrating product I like best is Phyto 7 (daily hydrating cream.) This product doesn't use one plant but a synergy of multiple plants. It is this synergy of plants that is magical. Our goal is to research the plants that are naturally the most effective.
B&TB: Which of your products are you using now?
PA: Today, the products I use are: Phyto 7, Phytopolléïne from time to time, and Phytopanama+.
B&TB: How did you first become interested in beauty?
PA: When I started as a hairstylist, I realized that the staff that shampooed our clients had damaged hands. This was from applying products all day long, and that is what struck me the most. It is not normal for hair care products to hurt people! I had to find products that would be as close to the nature of humans as possible, while considering that humans react well or not to a product.

I think the Phyto products are fantastic and the thining hair range is a ture classic. We have been selling them in our salon for many years and we great rave reviews and from are clients who buy again. Phyto has maybe suffered from a old fashioned brand image, but at the end of the day its what in the bottle that counts and this is where Phyto suceeds.
