Red Rx: Making The Bug Bites Go Bye-Bye

It was a whopping 3-day vacay here in the U.S. in celebration of the 4th of July. Dunno how y'all spent your holiday, but I spent mine donating blood.

To mosquitoes.

I was attacked by five no-see-ums who branded me with their evil marks - two direct shots to the face (whywhywhy??) plus a cluster of chow-marks on the wrist.

Walking around looking like the all-you-can-drink section of the mosquito buffet is not in the cards for someone with as many different brands of concealer in her makeup arsenal as I have, so after an entire Sunday night dedicated to experimentation, here's how I cover up when the bed bugs bite:

First, neutralized the red using the mint green color in the Sephora Concealer Palette. Cool green is a fantastic counter-color to siren red, and because the creamy formulas in this palette are thicker than foundations or primers, this is a good pick for long-lasting color correction.

Next up, for heavy-duty spot-correcting I went straight to the complexion pros: Make Up For Ever! I picked their Camouflage Cream, which is a super-creamy concealer with a high moisture content, so it goes on smooth and looks perfectly natural. To get just the right of coverage, warm a little bit of this up between your fingertips, dot it on the boo-boo (don't rub, swipe, or smear), then pat to blend.

Switch hitter: If you don't have a pot of MUFE handy, another good and equally high-coverage pick is Kevyn Aucoin's new Sensual Skin Enhancer. It layers on as sheer or as heavy as you want it to, making it a must-have in any beauty bag.

I've got a bona fide cluster of bites - the kind that makes people stare and say, "What happened?"

But isn't that the great thing about makeup? It's good for more than just faces!
