Have you received your current issue of the beauty bible yet? The annual Best of Beauty issue (which b-t-dubs is also the biggest evs) sports a very interesting proposal from the mag's doyenne. Allure's founding editor and current EIC uses her monthly letter to implore the industry to cut back on the packaging.
Here's an excerpt:
"The packaging of expensive beauty products has gotten out of control…Some cosmetics companies seem to believe that all these layers create a sense of luxury, that they make the product look precious, like a Valentine's present from Harry Winston. But that idea is passé."And then there's my personal fave line:
"[the cosmetic industry] has to move away from the Kimora Lee Simmons approach to luxury."She also cites some companies that are doing packaging right. Among her list is Sephora fave Shu Uemura, which she says, "have a sort of cool because they have little packaging."

I totally agree with her. Less outer packaging is more. Cosmetic companies need to take a page from MAC make up. They recycle all of their bottles, tubes, compacts etc... BEAUTIFUL!
I don't think there's anything wrong with funky/cute packaging. If there is one thing that needs to be fun & not-so-serious it's makeup! People need to lighten up. Fun packaging is what draws attention & when there's a quality product inside the packaging it's a win/win situation.
No secret that I lovre me some bunny rabbit packaging...it's just the amount of plastic, paper et. al that she isn't to hip to...
I can't believe that Diorshow mascara did not make the list. There's no way this is a beauty bible when it leaves out the most talked about mascara this year!!!
