After a flurrying of crossed emails and a bevy of phone messages, B&TB caught up with beauty babe, founder and formulator of a cult brand, low-key Bklyn lady, wife, mom and Carol's Daughter, Lisa Price. She chatted about her company, her approach to beauty and, of course, her mom. Here, the last of three posts.
Part Trois: Lisa's beauty tips and product picks.
Carol, AKA Lisa's mom, imparted a pretty simple beauty philosophy. She believed in clear skin and a natural approach to makeup. And that was a big influence on her daughter's beauty philosophy. Like her products, Lisa's regime focuses on the natural beauty.
B&TB: What are your top three beauty tips?
LISA: "When I think of 'top' I think of my head, so I'll start with hair. I wear my hair curly, so it needs to be detangled. I try not to wet it too much. Wet hair seems more prone to breakage. I use a wide-tooth comb on dry hair and work from the ends to roots.
Also, I always use an SPF of at least 15 on the skin under my eyes. There are ways to combat aging even if you don't have an undereye cream. Everyday I apply sunscreen tight under my eyes, and no matter the SPF I reapply throughout the day.
I always seal in moisture after a shower with the application of oil. Then I pat myself dry and put on some moisturizer."
B&TB: Any oil in particular? Like Olive Oil?
LISA: "I prefer almond oil or sunflower oil; olive oil tends to smell like a salad!"
B&TB: What are your top five product picks?
LISA: "Carol's Daughter Hair Milk ($12). This is my ultimate top pick. It makes my hair curly and hydrated. My hair looks and feels healthy.
Also, Rx for Brown Skin Protect and Defend Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 15 ($26). The active ingredients in some sunscreens can sting under my eyes, but not this. Plus the formula doesn't make my skin look at all ashy, which can happen with other products.
I like Carol's Daughter Sweet Honey Dip Chocolate Brown Sugah Scrub ($34). I love the way the large sugar crystals feel on my skin; it is something I've never been able to experience before. And the fragrance! It is decadent, but not overwhelming…you don't smell like a chocolate bar.
Oh, and Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Smoothie ($19). This keeps my hair super soft and rinses off with no residue or buildup.
And lastly, Dior Diorshow Black Out Mascara ($24). I love love love this mascara! With a little concealer, bronzer and a swipe of the mascara and I'm good to go."
