The Sephora Project: Summer Re-Cap

Fall is officially here and we’re getting ready for another season working with the inspiring young women at Girls For A Change, our partners for The Sephora Project. In May, Girls For A Change Silicon Valley hosted their 5th Annual Completion Ceremony in Campbell, CA. We got to sit in on this momentous occasion as girls from dozens of neighborhoods got on stage and presented the tasks their teams completed this year in their communities. There was an inspiring speech from former model-turned-media activist Ann J. Simonton who spoke about the media’s effect on self-image with regards to women, and the announcing of GFC’s “It Girl” Sejal Hathi (whom you’ll meet in a later blog post – we got to chat with her!). Every girl who attended got Sephora lipglosses at the registration booth, and the finale of the evening: Sephora gift certificates were raffled away to a few lucky winners. Nothing turns up the volume of hundreds of screaming girls quite like an evening of girl power and Sephora goodies!

Not long after that at Westfield’s Oakridge Mall in San Jose, California, Sephora opened its doors with a kickoff to benefit Girls For A Change. 10% of the profits that day were donated to GFC and there were signs decorated throughout the store commemorating the special event. Here, take a peek at some photos we took of the events and stay tuned for one-on-one interviews we did with some of the GFC girls, including the founders Niko Everett and Whitney Smith.

It’s the beginning of a beauty-full friendship. Stay tuned! – Joannie McIntyre
