Spring 2009 Beauty Trends: Backstage at Jose Duran

SHOW: Jose Duran
MAKEUP: Floriane David for MAKE UP FOR EVER
MODEL: Atalya Slater for Boss Models
BEAUTY BOTTOM-LINE: Super-pink cheeks, overly penciled brows, ashy lids

THE LOOK: MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy Director Floriane David’s inspiration for this look was 18th-century nobility and their makeup practices. This translated to a royal flush—one that “looks like blood vessel capillaries”—created by patting on Flash Colors with the fingers with minimal blending. “We’re also drawing a rough line above the eyebrows to make it look inexperienced,” says Floriane. Since the brows and cheeks were so purposely overdone, she downplayed the eyes, using ashy brown shadows, minimal liner, and no mascara, which she says would “make it look too sophisticated.” The lips were a mix of foundation and pink gloss. Behold the final look—and bow down to MAKE UP FOR EVER.

GET IT: MAKE UP FOR EVER Flash Color in Fuchsia 5, HD Invisible Cover Foundation, HD Microfinish Powder (only on t-zone), Eyeshadow in Satiny Black Chocolate 172 on lid and in inner corners, Star Powder in Bronze Brown 930 over shadow for shine, black Kohl Pencil, and Liquid Lip Color in Pearly Pink.

Jose Duran's show was naturale forwaRD. Its amazing detail to beautiful shapes, give the ordinary woman the desire to transform herself. Just by wearing one of JOse's designs from his fall'08 collection. His concepts are raw, delicate, like the soft touch of a rose and the sting of its sharp thorns. You find pleasure in small details that contrast and inspire a new day for hope and freedom. Jose Duran has an idea and started giving us pieces of his greatness.
