Spring 2009 Beauty Trends: Backstage at Alice + Olivia

SHOW: Alice + Olivia
MAKEUP: Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics
MODEL: Amy Hixon for Marilyn
BEAUTY BOTTOM-LINE: Peachy keen makeup
THE LOOK: “Slow down, you move to fast,” hummed in my head the instant I walked into the room of models trying on clothes and getting their hair and makeup done at Alice + Olivia. “She’s a free spirited, pretty flower child. Very hippie trippie,” Sarah Lucero described. Instead of wearing a whole face of foundation, the celeb makeup artist suggested using tinted moisturizer and concealer in just the spots that need it. “If you use too much concealer too fast in one area, you can look too done,” warned Lucero. A dust of Stila’s convertible color in Camelia was added to cheeks for a healthy sheen.

On eyes, a light coat of shimmery golden peach eye shadow brushed over lids and on the bottom, a matte light brown shadow was used to follow the lash line. The trick? “Instead of sweeping the brush directly across lash line, hold it so it stands outwards (away from your face) and pull the brush down a bit,” suggests Lucero. This trick helps create a smokier/smudgy eye, rather than a straight line. Top off with major, fluffy lashes by getting the mascara right at the base of the lashes, since there’s no liner being used on the lids. The lips are key to completing this look. Lucero used Stila’s peach lip glaze, which she claims turns anyone into instant babe. “This color looks opaque in the tube, but when it’s on, it looks pretty like stained glass.” Now that the makeup's complete, let’s all sing together now: “Doot-in’ doo-doo, Feelin’ groovy”.
