Halloween 2008: Straight From The Streets Of Tokyo

Inspired by a pumpkin head and a fragrance launch, fellow Sephoran Mia Rasor and I dressed up as Harajuku Girls this Halloween.

With my "Style Deficit Disorder: Harajuku Fashion" book in hand, we set out to craft a costume that would make the funky fashionistas of Tokyo proud.

Mia, being Sephora's Senior Art Director, was much more calculated in her design approach. Watching me stuff my basket with a rainbow-assortment of barrettes, bracelets, flower pins, and necklaces, she took me aside and coached me on determining my "over-arching theme and color palette."

Armed with our color-coordinated Hello Kitty paraphernalia, neon knee socks, cyber-punk accessories, and a super-trendy wig (cut in a crazy Japanesy bob), we were ready to put on 'THE FACE.'

For this gloriously bold look, we enlisted the expertise of shu uemura's top makeup artists, Rita Brown and Alexia Ogle. (How 'top' are they? Rita assisted with Madonna's makeup at her concert the next night. Enough said.)

In my next posting, I'll reveal some fun tips and tricks so you can play with your palettes and play up your features...harajuku style.
