Lipstick Jungle

According to the New York Times, the Lipstick Index (an indicator of cosmetic sales) is up about 40%. Coined by Leonard Lauder, the measurement is said to be inversely related to economic trends and based on the theory that a consumer turns to less expensive indulgences, such as lipstick.

The Times also gave a list of some of this season's fave shades, with a bunch of Sephora brands making the cut.

There's the ultra-hydrating Korres Mango Butter SPF 10 in Nude 33 ($18)...

...the delicate yet vampy dusted rose Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick in Lolita ($18)

...and true-true red Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimite Crème Matte Lipstick in Red, ($23).

And one of my posts wouldn't be complete without mentioning—ta-dah—Benefit. So here's a shout-out to the perfectly universal flattering Benefit Full-Finish Lipstick in Ladies' Choice ($18).

What lip color are you purchasing these days?

I LOVE that rich gorgeous color from the Kat Von D line. It's perfect for fall.

I've been rocking a very bold deep red or berry color this season. Vampy without going overboard. Playing up the lips so dramatically makes it easy to keep the lines sleek and beautiful with fresh black liner winged out to create that "cat eye effect". Very 40's glam. I also like to spice it up with some fake eyelashes.

The only thing for my lips I have been buying lately is Chanel Glossimer and YSL Golden Gloss. I just can't bring myself to wear lipstick!
