Secrets From The Founder's Files: Too Faced

Last week I had the pinch-me-I'm-dreaming pleasure of attending Sephora's Founder's Day event, which gave me two days of access to brand founders like Jean Ford from Benefit, Lisa Price from Carol's Daughter and Dany Sanz from MAKE UP FOR EVER. In between testing out new beauty products and getting makeovers, I picked up a few secrets to share.

FOUNDER: Jerrod Blandino from Too Faced Cosmetics

"Ladies, who in this room isn't fabulous? Because if you're not, come see me and we're making you fabulous PRONTO."

That would be Jerrod. If you need either an injection of sass, or a just a really fabulous makeover, Jerrod is your fella. Before he dove into those fabulous makeovers, I got him to share a tip on, as he says, always looking better than your friends.

"I started out in the 80s, when everything was all about mall girls and tons of makeup and divaness. Loved that. That's the Too Faced girl. I make products for girls who aren't afraid to be glamourinas."

Suprise fact: He started out as a school art teacher, but quickly gravitated to beauty. "My idea of glamourland? Sephora. I've loved it forever. I love that you're supposed to walk in there and play with makeup."

What makes Too Faced products so special is that Jerrod gets his ideas from just about everywhere. For example:

1. He invented glitter eyeshadow. Years ago, in an attempt to amp shimmer, he tamped actual craft glitter into his shadows - and loved it so much he never stopped making it.

2. His lip injection was the first to use plumping technology - he got the idea after watching a medical program about dilating blood vessels.

3. He dug into science and medicine again to help realize his vision for "tube socks for eyelashes" - now known as his best selling Lash Injection mascara.

His lounge was Hollywood: The makeup stations where dripping with faux diamonds and the music was club volume. And the beauty? What else but fabulous.
The only thing better than diamonds and makeup...

...are cupcakes.
