Wild Roses Are Red

Greek natural beauty provider, Korres, is getting back to its roots with a collection of fab products featuring the powerful skin-saving wild rose, which in Greece is one of the most honored flowers. In fact, the Greek myths of the rose and those of Aphrodite—goddess of beauty, passion, and love—are intimately intertwined.

The Myth Of The Rose

Everyone knows of Aphrodite's sea-foam birth, but it wasn't she alone that first appeared on that day. According to myth, when she first stepped out of the water, the sea foam fell from her body onto the earth. In that spot the wild rose sprang forth, though its delicate petals were white.
Years later, Aphrodite and Persephone, goddess of the underworld, vied over the love of the handsome youth Adonis. Zeus, wishing to appease both goddesses, ruled that Adonis would spend 1/3 of the year with Persephone, 1/3 with Aphrodite, and 1/3 as he wished. Adonis chose to spend his allotted 1/3 with Aphrodite and the two became lovers.

But Aphrodite's happiness did not last long. One day while hunting, Adonis was fatally wounded by a boar. Perhaps it was Persephone who sent the boar, knowing that if Adonis were dead his spirit would forever remain with her in the underworld. In any case, Aphrodite sped to her lovers' side, pricking her foot on a rose thorn along the way. She was too late to save Adonis, but the divine blood that fell from her wound landed on the rose and stained it red. From then on, the red rose was Aphrodite's sacred flower.

A Dose Of The Rose
It's one of Korres' fave flowers too—and for good reason. Wild rose oil has moisturizing and healing properties due to a high level of vitamin C, and linoleic and linolenic acids. It forms a protective layer on the skin that enhances cell regeneration to repair fine lines and wrinkles, skin discolorations, and other imperfections. There's no wonder the rose was so sacred to the goddess of beauty herself!

Korres offers a range of skintastic products utilizing the powerful wild rose as a main ingredient.
