The wedding day is (or should be!) all about romance and love. So of course, a popular bridal look is the romantic one.
“This is my favorite look,” said Sephora PRO Beauty Team member Sara Biria. “It’s all about playing up your inner beauty – being fun, girly, and seductive, but in a soft, romantic way. Plus, it’s probably the easiest look that a bride can create on her own for her wedding day.”
According to Sara, the first thing to think about is playing up to your complexion. If you have medium to deep skin tones, work with deeper tone pearl iridescents. If you’re more fair to medium, you should use lighter colors.
For me, Sara started with the eyes. She applied Smashbox Single Eye Shadow in Fizz ($16), a basic pink champagne, all over the eyelid, layering to adjust the intensity gradually. Next she used MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes in Purple Shade 6L, blending it into the shadow with a brush. She said, “You don’t want to have any harsh definition for this look. You also don’t want just your eyes to stand out or just your lips. It has to all flow into place.” She then patted loose pigments, MAKE UP FOR EVER Star Powder in Iridescent Beige 926 ($19), just in the center to give lids an extra pop, starting in the center and moving around in a half moon.
Because the color on the lids is subtle, Sara said you can play up your mascara more. We used Dior DiorShow Black Out Waterproof Mascara ($24). False lashes are also an option, or individual lashes could play up a superflirty look perfectly.
After finishing your complexion, bronzer is next. For the romantic look, use a matte bronzer, not a shimmer, to define the cheekbones. Sara brushed on Guerlain Terracotta Mineral Flawless Bronzing Powder ($65) right under the cheekbone, extending it out to the edge, toward the middle of my ear.
According to Sara, "Blush is very important because it’s going to put the whole look together. So with your eyes and lips both being soft, blush is going to give you that contour and definition.” She applied a shimmer blush, Bare Escentuals bareMinerals All-Over Face Color in Rose Radiance ($18), on the apples of my cheeks.
Sara suggested for the lips something subtle, soft, and definitely pink, whether it’s beige, nude, or bright. Again, it depends on your complexion. For a deeper skin tone, stick to a deeper pink. You can add a gold shimmer gloss to give a natural highlight. If you have fair to medium tones, like me, wear something a little more nude or brighter. Sara lined and partially filled my lips with MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Lip Waterproof Lip Liner Pencil in Pink 15C ($17) and finished with NARS Lip Gloss in Greek Holiday ($24).
The results? I loved this look and could definitely see myself wearing it on my wedding day. The groom-to-be even weighed in. “Romantic over traditional, definitely,” he said. “But I like you best without any makeup,” he added. Good man. (But what a liar!)
