HEAT FAVES: Tips To Avoid The Red Lobster Look

We interrupt your primping with an important message...

J4th is over, most of us have been to at least one BBQ, and bikini waxes are finally worth the effort. Summer is here. So do you know where your SPF levels are at?

The Beauty Stop blog has a friendly reminder/good point:

SPF 15 gives you just 93.5% protection.

SPF 30 gives you 97% protection, whilst SPF 45 will give you 98% protection from the sun.

One of beauty's cardinal rules: wear sunscreen every day. That's because the majority of UV rays that reach the earth are UVA—the ones associated with skin wrinkling, leathering, and sagging. If you're not yet using an SPF daily, it's time to drop anchor and find one.

Click over to our interactive Sun Solutions guide to find the best SPF for you. Then follow these tips to avoid feeling the burn:

-Use two tablespoons of sunscreen for the face.
-Use one ounce (about the amount needed to fill a shot glass) for your body.
-Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure.
-Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming.

HOT TIP: Remember to apply SPF to your scalp, tops of feet, and ears. Forget to protect, and you'll regret it.

Some articles that I have read show that you only need a 1/2 teaspoon for the face only, not 2 Tbsp.

Good information.

Face amount does seem a bit excessive, however. When comparing 2 tbsp for face compared to just 1 ounce for body... That ratio seems more than a little off when comparing the size of one's face to the amount of skin to cover on the rest of one's body.

Still - good reminders!

I definitely want to avoid skin sagging, leathering and all that bad stuff but it's such a pain to put on SPF all the time. Especially if I need to have 2 teaspoons! That is a lot of product on my face, and to reapply every 2 hours is very hard with makeup. The road to correct skincare is so hard! Thanks for the tips though.

2 tbsp = more products sold, faster.
