Are you a Lipstick Lady or a Gloss Girl?

The other night at dinner 64 floors high above Bangkok, I marveled at the outrageous amount of traffic in the city and made the following observation in an outside voice: “If you wear lipstick, you really wear lipstick.”(Obviously, my gift for language wasn’t working at top speed. I’m blaming the ridic. case of jet-lag.) But my thought behind the declaration was this: Lovers of lipstick seem to wear it 24-7. As a certified gloss girl, I can’t leave the house or the country, for that matter, without at least 6 different tubes of shiny goodness (totally obsessing over Kat Von D’s Lightening Sheer Lip Gloss). And I swipe, swish and shimmer whenever I’m nervous, waiting for the train or feeling like I need an oomph. But the idea of layering on the heavy lacquer frightens me a bit. (Maybe it’s because my attempts always turn me into looking like a clown.)
In fact, I actually admire the Lipstick Ladies. There’s something about them that always seem so confident and so utterly put together. Maybe it’s because they effortlessly pull of deeply painted pouts sans smudges, tooth-wearing incidents or corners caking. Do they have a hidden application talent and staying-put power secret that I somehow missed in my middle school Girl Scout makeup lessons? Or is it more of a personality trait? I’m sort of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type. And the fleeting wash of color fits my mood changes. Do LLs love commitment and stability? What’s your take? And while you are at it, let us know are you a LL or a GG? SWAK.

I'm totally a gloss girl! I am constantly hoarding lipgloss! It's kinda ridiculous. Recently I've been trying to get into lipsticks, I have yet to succeed.

Same gloss all the way!

I'm definitely a lipstick girl. I like how a nude matte lip can really make your eyes pop. Paired with the right lip liner, my face feels put together.

And I love leaving a lipstick stain (red, of course) on a collarbone. Guilty pleasure.

A Lipstick Lady, that's me. I like the Kat Von D line too - but it's the Painted Love lipsticks that hooked me. =)

I'm like Angela- a complete GG but now trying to get into lipstick to because I envy the LLs!! I wanna be an LL too! :D I have a million lipglosses!

For all you LLs, what lipsticks do you LOVE? I want to find a really good, moisturizing lipstick. I'm trying to go bold too and find a good red (blue-based)for my fair skin since so many tend to go orangish on me.

Lipstick lady, with a touch of gloss in the center pout.

I'm a gloss girl. My purse always has to have a least 3 tubes of gloss.

Through high school and most of college I was a lipstick lady - but somewhere toward the end of college I started switching to glosses and now I'm trying to switch back to lipstick. I agree with you about looking so sophisticated and put together when wearing lipstick. Unfortunately I think I've lost the knack of wearing lipstick. Gloss is so forgiving that whenever I put on lipstick I end up with it smudging all along the edges of my lips. *sigh*

I'm totally a Lipstick Lady. Gloss just can't deliver that one-hit KO "Wow!" that a hot, Barbie-pink lipstick can.

I'm an LL trying (unsuccessfully) to convert to GG after a friend gave me some of her stash. :D I still love lipstick better, as I normally do nude lips with strong eyes - trying to distract people from looking at my flat Chinese nose! :D

I am definitely a lip gloss girl! I am so addicted! I buy lip gloss every week! Even when I wear lipstick, I put lipgloss on top of it. LOL

I'm a gloss girl! I like the moisture for my own comfort! And with larger fuller lips gloss gives them the right emphasis :)

It depends for me, but I usually layer both to acquire a sheen that most lipstick just can't provide.

I'm a gloss girl ALL THE WAY...I like the shine and the color isn't too overbearing

Neither, as of now.. but I'm going for a new look & I ordered NARS Love Me Set from Sephora.com last week.. meaning it comes sometime today! & I'm too excited to try the NARS Orgasm Blush & LIPGLOSS :) Hope I fall in love as much as I think I will. I don't feel too nice with lipstick on. I have yet to find the perfect shades for me :)

Ah I agreed with your thoughts about lipstick so much! I feel like it never looks right when I apply it, and thus I am a gloss girl allll the way! At any given time I probably have more than 10 varieties in my purse :)

Definetly GLOSS! Lipstick doesn't seem to suit me very well :(

I wear more gloss than lipstick, though I am loving Lancome's lipsticks (in nude). I'm still not very good with the deep colors. But mostly, I do glosses.

I'm both! Swinging more toward lipsticks in my late 20s though. ;) Glosses are great for just throwing on in a rush, but lippies have staying power and really make my full lips "pop!"

I am totally a gloss girl. I only use lipstick when I go out or something like that. On a day to day basis I only like lip gloss.

I'm totally a GG! I've tried lipsticks but they always make me feel like I look so much older than I am for some reason. (In my 20s). Even when I wear a lipstick, I put gloss on top of it because there's just something about that sexy, shiny wet-look!

Ohhh how I struggle with this! I love the look of lipstick and the variety of colours you can get, but at the end of the day, I always end up with a nice sparkly or sheer gloss - I just cant let it go!

I'm definitely a gloss girl...Clinique's glosswear in Juicy Apple is one I buy over and over

I love both, although I have been wearing more gloss than lipstick lately. It's easier to apply without a mirror when I'm on the subway or walking down the street.

I also tend to use more gloss in the summer and more lipstick in the winter.

My fave lipsticks btw are MAC Creme Cup and Bare slimshine.

i'm both a LL and a GG!!!! but i have to say...i get the most compliments about how i look when i'm wearing gloss! ;)

i'm definitely a gloss girl! but my favorite thing to do is to take a lip stick and cover it with a lipbalm (from a tube). it makes my lipsticks glossy

I wish I could do lipstick, but I feel so out of my element in it. I'm gloss all the way.

Always a LL! My lips have almost no natural color and even the best of glosses have the color fade away within a few minutes. My favorite red is Sue Devitt's Great Australian Bight, exactly the right shade for blond hair and fair skin.

Gloss girl! I love lip gloss so much I have tons of it. I do not think I ever finish one, but I keep collecting glosses cause I love it so much! <3<3<3

Gloss. I have fuller lips, and lipstick makes them a little TOO pronounced. I also like to play up my eyes (I'm an eyeliner junkie), so I like to keep my lips a little more natural looking with just a sheer, shiny gloss. Lipstick's fun, but I don't have the patience to touch it up all the time!

I'm a gloss girl! Smashbox is my favorite!

Lipstick now and forever. Preferably red. (Gloss makes me feel as if I just ate something greasy and forgot to use a napkin.)

my natural lips are pretty nude, so i'm more of a lipstick girl. plus i just don't like it when the wind blows and my hair gets stuck to my lips when i'm wearing gloss.

I would prefer Lipstick.
Many women wrongly believe they can't wear red lipstick. The secret to choosing the right red lip color is in the undertones. Pink-skinned girls should opt for cherry red. Those with olive skin can wear fire-engine red. Dark skin looks great with deep reds.
Very interesting post.Thanks

Converting from a GG to the smooth sophistication of a LL is as simple as choosing the right lip stain. I prefer Urban Decay's Lip Envy in Envious because you can layer it to be as light or as saturated as you want. I always top it with gloss, but you can also use a lip liner to give the polished look of a 1940s glamour girl.

I'm both a GG and a LL, depending on the color. I get lipsticks in reds and plums. Glosses for pinks.
P.S. The DuWop Private Red is a nice red. Also, for pale ladies, try NARS Cruella, it has a bluish undertone.

Totally a lipstick girl, just because Gloss makes it harder to kiss people without them thinking that it's gross :P I love both though!
