Get Your Hair Done By A Fekkai Pro
She's A Very Bad Gal With A Very Big Award
Looking for a mascara that really shivers your timbers? Or at least, dramatically fattens up your fringe?
Elle magazine recently declared Benefit BADgal Lash one of the “World’s Best Mascaras,” which is quite feat considering the skimpy $19 price tag.
Even if global greatest lists don't impress you, you can still feast your peepers on Benefit’s new how-to guide to creating eyes with attitude.
You Need This: The Foundation Brush
When it comes to doing beautiful makeup, the artist and the cosmetics always get their due credit…but there is a constant, more silent partner who deserves as much (if not more) appreciation: The brushes.
You need to trust me when I tell you that if you want professional results from your makeup, you NEED professional tools.
Since flawless skin is the first building block to a stunning makeup, I am going to begin with the brush every woman must have:
The Foundation Brush
Use this brush to apply foundation (liquid or cream), tinted moisturizer, primers, cream blushes, facial creams and masks.
Why it works: The brush is composed of high quality synthetic bristles that won’t absorb the product. The flat rounded tip glides easily across the skin, evenly depositing product on the entire face (even the contoured areas). And, it is far more hygienic than multiple use sponges or fingers.
What to do: Starting at the mask of your face (the center area), blend the product outward. (Be sure to sweep the brush downward). Skin is a beautiful thing, so be sure to only use the coverage you need to give the illusion of a flawless complexion. Using the brush for a light application will allow you better control then you could achieve from fingers or a sponge.
Tips and tricks:
* When applying foundation, blend the makeup into your skin at the jaw line so there can be no trace of where makeup begins or ends.
* Use this brush for end-of-the-day foundation touch-ups, too. A light touch of foundation in a few key spots will revive and pull together your whole look - and it will keep you from having to start your whole face all over again.
* Even the weakest fingers generate a lot of pressure on the skin. The handle of a foundation brush alleviates force so you can apply product with no stress, strain or stretching to the delicate facial skin.
*With a light hand, tap or brush cream blushes onto the apples of the cheeks and up toward the cheekbone. The light application will let it melt into the foundation so the color appears to be rolling up through your skin.
*Tap whatever foundation remains on the brush over freshly applied powder blush. This will instantly give any powder blush the radiant appearance of a dewy cream blush.
My favorites: I love the Cover FX #130 foundation brush ($34) and the Sephora Brand Platinum Foundation Brush #47 is a great buy at $30.

On-the-Go Treatment from skyn ICELAND

Spring is finally here–no more hibernation. Social butterflies everywhere are fluttering to dinners, happy hours, and festivities after work. Unfortunately, if your skin is anything like mine, it won't look its best keeping up with the demands of a busy schedule. That’s why I’m excited about two new products from skyn ICELAND: Icelandic Relief Eye Pen with Biospheric Complex and Glacial Cleansing Cloths with Biospheric Complex.
Are puffy eyes screaming out your late-night partying to coworkers? The Icelandic Relief Eye Pen will treat and soothe under-eye dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines. Tuck this product in your bag so you can dab it on between coffee sips throughout the day. The pen is filled with skyn ICELAND’s bestselling Icelandic Relief Eye Cream with Biospheric Complex, packed with natural ingredients like vitamin K, orange peel, and Icelandic kelp. Watch out for this eye-saver on May 1, available exclusively at Sephora.
I always keep a few essentials in my bag, but there’s certainly not enough room for my bulky bottle of cleanser. Luckily, skyn ICELAND’s new product, Glacial Cleansing Cloths, carries the same foaming, deep-cleansing punch that’s in its bestselling Glacial Face Wash with Biospheric Complex. These on-the-go cloths can be used anytime, anywhere, since they don’t require any water. During that next 3 PM slump at your desk, just squeeze one to foam, then wipe away dullness on your skin. It leaves no residue, so you won’t need to rinse. Stay tuned–this product launches in June.
Skyn ICELAND is one of the brands at Sephora that carry natural and organic products. Check out others here.
Get The Goddess Look: Eos
Eos
This daughter of Theia and Hyperion, and sister to Helios (the sun) and Selena (the moon), is the goddess of the dawn and the herald of her brother, the sun. Each morning Eos rises and scatters her light across the horizon, bringing forth the day for mankind. She is the soft light of early morning, and the dew upon the ground is her tears.
Hidden behind her gentle luminosity is a beauty unmatched by mortals—and matched by few other Greek goddesses. Like Selene, Eos had a tendency in myth to abduct beautiful young men—and who would deny her? The dawn goddess holds sacred the morning dew, saffron, and the colors of morning light. Here is a list of products that will help you start your day bright and beautiful.
When Eos took Tithonos as her consort, she begged Zeus to grant the prince immortality, but she forgot to ask for eternal youth. As the decades passed so did Tithonos' youth, until he shriveled up into grasshopper. Thankfully, Bliss' godsend, The Youth As We Know It moisturizing cream, has everything needed to keep that grasshopper look at bay, including MMP Inhibitors, Wrinkle Reduction Peptides, Visual Facial Fillers, Cellular Respiration Boosters, Hyperdermal Destressors, 7-Day Hydrators, Barrier Repairing Ceramides, Wrinkle Relaxers, Multifruit Complex, and Vitazyme A. Now, can nectar and ambrosia compare?
Two of the things for which Eos was most remembered by Greek poets were for being the goddess of dawn and for seducing handsome young men, the latter being a curse placed upon her by Aphrodite for Eos' affair with Aphrodite's lover, Ares. With Laura Mercier's Lip Color - Shimmer in Pink Dawn and Seduction, you too can get the lip-smacking look of the glowing dawn goddess.
When Eos' son, Menmon, died during the Trojan War, she wept so hard that her tears covered the earth. Now, each morning she awakes from dreaming about him and weeps anew—her tears are the morning dew. Kevyn Aucoin Beauty has a more uplifting story to tell with their Dew Drop Powder Foundation, a creamy powder foundation that will keep your skin even toned and smooth from morning till night.
As the "rosy-fingered" and "golden-armed" goddess of the morning dew and light, Eos is supernaturally gorgeous. Get her pre-day peepers with Shiseido's The Makeup Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow in Goldlights, Whitelights, Rose Tulle, and Clover Dew—shades that will grant you dawn-goddess appeal no matter the time of day (or night).
Often described as "robed in saffron," Eos' beauty is unfathomable—only possibly imagined as being like a seducing screen siren of the 1960s, such as Brigitte Bardot. And like Bardot, Eos is remembered for her multiple affairs with handsome men—one could say she gets what she wants. Tocca makes the comparison more concrete by incorporating saffron and rose (both connected to Eos) into their glamorous eau de parfum inspired by Brigitte Bardot herself.
Want Eos' "rosy-fingered" glow? Sephora by OPI has just the thing with their Nail Colour in Wardrobe Change—a shimmering pink rose that will make your hands look as fresh as the morning.
By her titanic husband, Astraios, Eos was seen as the mother of the winds and the stars. And just as Eos heralds the rising of the sun each day, the Astra (stars) herald the coming of their mother. Celebrate Eos' glimmering nocturnal children with Make Up For Ever's Star Glitter, which forms a glimmering veil over the hair, body, and face.

One Minute To Go: Nathan Johnson's Instant Skin Tricks!
Plot spoiler! Sort of...
If you’re flipping through this month’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar, one of our fave makeup artists (aside from our Pro Beauty Team members, obvs!), Nathan Johnson is featured on page 153. The topic? How to get gorgeous, glowing, flawless skin in an instant. We’re all about fast results, so we cribbed his notes.
First off, cancel out any redness. “The ingredients in your makeup must be soothing,” says Nathan. He recommends starting off with Clinique’s new Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Power (an Allure mag top pick, too), which has calming ingredients like mushroom and puff-fighters like caffeine.
Next up, “Makeup slides on oily skin, so apply mattifying products to control shine,” like Cover FX Clearprep FX primer. If your skin runs on the dry side, Nathan likes Stila’s Hydrating Primer.
Lastly, unless you really need it, skip the powder – especially if you’ve got normal to dry skin. “Powder can look cakey on dry skin,” he says. Instead, blot off too much shine with Boscia’s makeup-saving blotting linens.
"I Need A Drink!": Sneaking Moisture Into Your Makeup
Here's a two-tricks-in-one tip from Renata Helfman, owner of the tres eco-chic beauty boutique Vert in LA:
Adding a drop of Ren's Omega Serum to your foundation makes it spread effortlessly. Bonus: The serum is made with natural flax oil, which is high in skin-loving Omega-3s that keep your complexion hydrated, smooth, and supple. Pretty neat!

What's In Your Makeup Bag, Maureen Kelly from tarte?
Sephora just launched a new natural and organic seal that makes shopping for natural beauty products simple and easy - just look for the green stamp identifying that pretty pick as a Sephora-approved natural and organic product.
To celebrate green things, we asked tarte founder Maureen Kelly to show us what's in her makeup bag. As the founder of an "Earth engineered" beauty line, she's a naturally pretty expert.
Clean Slate Natural Primer and ReCreate Natural Anti-aging Foundation with Wrinkle Rewind™ Technology
"These two complexion products go hand in hand. I always start my beauty routine with our natural primer. It keeps my makeup in place all day long (no creasing!) and the natural fruit and plant-derived extracts soothe and hydrate my skin. And what’s not to love about ReCreate? It’s clinically proven to naturally reduce fine lines & wrinkles by 67% after six weeks and increase skin moisture by 54% within 15 minutes of application! This is really what I call one of our high performance natural products."
Lights, Camera, Lashes! 4-in-1 Natural Mascara
"If you only put one thing on your face, then make it our 4-in-1 natural mascara! It lengthens, curls, volumizes and conditions your lashes. And boy does it curl—it’s clinically proven to increase the appearance of lash curl by 90.2%. Careful! A little really goes a long way."
A Perfect Whirled Natural Swirl Cheek Stain
"I love everything about this swirled cheek stain—the t5 super fruit™ infused, natural formula that goes on smoothly and the versatile color! It gives you such a healthy glow. And 'a perfect world' is what we all want, right?!"
Spring Greening Reusable Straw Palette
"This compact is one of my new spring essentials. From the vibrant teal and soft pink shadows to the sparkling t5 super fruit™ infused glosses, each item can be worn alone or combined to create a different look. What I also adore is the packaging—not only is it eco-friendly (straw and bamboo), but I can reuse it to hold my business cards or jewelry when I travel."
Be Good To Your Mother (Earth) 24.7 Natural Lip Sheers and reusable natural cotton tote set
"Our 24.7s are one of the first products we launched and I’m still obsessed with them. The formula is all natural—no parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, etc—and has SPF 15 so I can wear them anywhere. This reusable bag is an added bonus: I take it to the gym or carry it when I’m grocery shopping at the Farmer’s Market—it’s all about reducing your carbon footprint."
emphasEYES High Definition Eye Pencil
"When I want to make my eyes pop, I turn to emphasEYES for some impact. I specifically designed it to be 4 times thinner than your average eyeliner so it’s really easy to use. This super creamy formula is infused with vitamins, plant extracts and mineral pigments, and can be used on the inner rims of eyes without irritating, running or fading! No more tears for all you sensitive ladies out there."
More! More! More! For Less! Less! Less!
36 eyeshadows, 12 lip glosses, 3 blushes, 1 bronzer, 3 applicators for $22.
Take that, recession.

Mineral Makeup 101: How To Apply It
According to she of the flawless face, Laura Mercier, mineral foundation has a high amount of pigment, so you get medium to full coverage without it looking heavy. Because it's made with natural minerals, too, it's less irritating for sensitive skin tones. And! It's even got natural SPF in there, too. Obviously, it just loves your skin.
But there's definitely a trick to applying it (yeah, really. Raise your hand if you've been there done that). Bare Escentuals coined the phrase, "Swirl. Tap. Buff," but for those of us who need a little more instruction than that, try Allure magazine's 5-step instructional.
PREP
Start with clean skin. Apply moisturizer and sunscreen, and give them a minute to sink in. If your face is still moist, lightly blot it with a tissue ˆ otherwise the powder won't blend well. Dab regular concealer on undereye circles.
LOAD
Shake some powder into the container's sifter. Dip a short-handled powder blush with firm, domed bristles into the powder. Tap off excess, then swirl the brush on the back of your hand to work the powder into the bristles.
APPLY
Working inward from the perimeter of your face, apply the powder by making small, tight circles with the brush. Start at ear level and buff each side of your face, then move on to your forehead, nose, chin, and jawline.
ADJUST
If you need more coverage in areas, don't dip into the powder again. Instead, go back over those areas with your brush alone. To hide a zit, dip a concealer brush in the powder and pat it over the blemish only.
COLOR
Blend away the line where the powder meets your undereye concealer with a clean, fluffy eyeshadow brush. Sweep on a powder blush or bronzer - not cream, liquid, or gel, which can cause powder to cake or streak.
Pro tip alert! Bare Escentuals makeup artist Bravon Pascua has one last secret: "Give mineral makeup 5 to 10 minutes to melt into your skin. Because it's made to sink in and become a second skin, less is always more. You'll really be surprised at how little you need."
Tried + Tested: Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist
Last week, we spilled a secret: Lindsay Lohan is launching her own spray tan. Called Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist, it's coming to Sephora this spring for $35 per bottle.
Some of you promptly scoffed at that.
It's true that LiLo hasn't always had the best faux-glows, but you've got to give the girl credit: She's been self-testing tanning products foreveh and at some point, yearsandyearsandyears of trial and error makes a gal a mini-expert on all things sunny and bottled.
To test her chops - or rather, her tan - New York Daily News editors recently spritzed on SevinNyne. Guess what? They loved it, saying, "it turned even a self-tanning skeptic into a believer with its natural color, yummy coconut scent and even-a-dummy-can-do-it spray application."
That made us want to try, too, so we picked Sephora staffer and self-tanning expert, Blakely, to give it a try. The result: Love. It gave her pale skin a head-to-toe glow with no streaks, no mess, and most importantly, no orange. If that's what years of celebrity tanning looks like, sign the rest of us up.

We Peek: What's In Utada's Makeup Bag
Pop sensaysh Utada will be at select Sephora stores next week, hosting listening parties for her new album, Come Back To Me. Already wildly popular in Japan, she's quickly collecting fans here in the U.S., too. In between tour stops, we got her to show us what she won't leave home without.
B&TB: What do you have in your makeup bag?
Utada: Shiseido eyelash curler, Firebird mascara by Fresh, plus Fresh's Sugar lipgloss and Absolute Concealer (no. 1). I also always keep Fresh's Lip Shine in my pocket.
B&TB: Do you have certain looks for each song? For example, with "Come back To Me," what look where you trying to create?
Utada: The director of the video, Anthony Mandler, and I decided to go with a very classic, '20s inspired look. Elegant and bold, like in the old silent movies; a Greta Garbo-type thing. Very mature and sexy, dark eyebrows, hair all pulled back (wet finish), bold red lips. I'd never done anything like that before, but it came out really well. It was an unexpectedly good look for me. Guess you never know till you try!
B&TB: How does makeup inspire you?
Utada: I've only recently gotten into the whole makeup thing (I know... it's kinda late... 26 years old). I have David Bowie's "The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust" photography book in my house, and I look at that and practice that look sometimes- LOL! It's really fun.
B&TB: What are your 3 best beauty tips?
Utada: Good makeup is when you look like you don't really have make up on. Finding a good skincare line that works well with my skin, that's really all I ever cared about. For skincare, I never mind spending money. And moisturize! Get a humidifier for your bedroom!
B&TB: Has beauty or makeup ever inspired a song or your music?
Utada: In a song I wrote when I was seventeen (Japanese lyrics), I say "Makeup and fashion are meaningless if they're used only for the purpose of hiding (flaws and weaknesses)." I think makeup is supposed to show who you are, not just hide flaws and things you don't like about yourself or your face.
Meet Utada - she's making stops at select Sephora stores! Get the deets here.

Shiseido Suncare Products Got You Covered On the Slopes
Take your board, leave the ground and score some big air—but don’t forget your sunblock! You can play in the powder all day, but be warned that the thin air boosts harmful sun rays, and the snow bounces them right back at you. And as you know, sunburn = wrinkles. Yikes! Luckily, at the Burton US Open 2009 Snowboarding Championship in Vermont, Shiseido’s making sure you don’t have to climb mountains to keep your skin looking fabulous.
Shiseido will have a complimentary Sunbar with large pumps filled with different types of Shiseido sunscreen for self-application at the bottom of Stratton Mountain throughout the competition, March 17- March 22. That’s FREE fun-in-the-sun goodies, ladies and gentleman, so no sunburn excuses! They will also be handing out more than 20,000 samples of Shiseido Suncare products, 1,000 sun totes, and 1,000 winter hats!
Flaky, sun-scorched skin has nothing on the glow that a downhill thrill and truly epic run can give you. So stay stoked — with the help of Shiseido’s sunscreen, you can put your best face forward and start shredding the slopes on the right foot (…umm, I mean your left foot). Fasten your beauty buckles; pro or not, it’s going to be a gorgeous ride!
Hey guys and gals! Don't forget to score some Shiseido Sun samples in their exclusive tent!

Natural & Organics Get Serious At Sephora
It's not really anything new - Sephora's always carried natural and organic beauty products - but if you consider yourself naturally gorgeous, shopping for Mother Nature-approved beauty is now easier.
Keep your peepers peeled in store and online for Sephora's new green seal - it lets you know a particular beauty buy meets Sephora's Natural and Organic standards.
So...what are those standards? Short answer: A commitment to ingredients without sacrificing results. Sephora's Natural & Organics seal immediately tells you a product is made with fewer to no GMO's (genetically modified organisms), parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, sulfates, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, or triclosan. At-a-glance!
What you will find in these beauty products is higher concentrations of antioxidants, botanicals, essential oils, fruit extracts, marine bioactives, minerals, and vitamins.
The FDA may not regulate the word natural, but we know you care as much about what you put on your body as what you put in it ('coz so do we!). Picking natural beauty products is now pretty easy. Happy shopping!
True fact: Sephora carries over 1,400 natural and organic products from over 30 brands.
