I'm going to skirt the rules and say my grandmother fits that description to a T. Always polished and pulled together, and she always has a wonderful selection of beautiful perfume bottles that I still enjoy playing with, even after all these years!

The most elegant mom I know would have to be my childhood friend's Ashley's mother. Every single time I would see her, she was always dressed to the nines as if she were on her way to the Oscars :) even on one occasion when I slept over after a school function, the next morning at 8am, she was dressed with her full skirt, hair in a decadent french twist and her opluent pearls making us chocolate chip pancakes... I always thought she slept in her beautiful state! lol
My mother is a conundrum. She can be the woman who (at 64 years old) will squirt someone with the garden hose while giggling, or the woman who will slip on a pair of 5" pumps and a strand of pearls for a night out and take your breath away. She is always eloquent, elegant, and has a smile that would take your breath away.
I'm proud to glance in the mirror sometimes and see inklings of that same smile staring back at me.

My best friend Jen's mother lost her husband when she was 7 months pregnant with her. He left behind enough money for her to stay home with the kids for the remainder of their childhood, and lucky for me that my mom needed a sitter, because I never had to go to daycare a day in my life, and I got to grow up with my friend like a sister.
Unfortunately, she gave up a lot to be such a good mom to my friend and her brother. She never remarried out of respect to her kids, and turned down opportunities to travel to be home with us kids. I depended on her to babysit me everyday, and she never missed a day.
Egyptian musk, rose, soft amber... all these things evoke images of exotic places and romance that she gave up in favor of being a devoted and dedicated mother.
Rose and floral are a no brainer- she spent her spare time in the garden, watching us play in the yard and focusing her energies on a healthy hobby.
Orange blossoms and creamy vanilla for the creamsicles she would give us on hot summer days as she laid out tanning and reading romance novels, smiling at us as we splashed in a kiddy pool.
She is a classy lady to this day, the best mother I know besides my own. She is like a surrogate grandmother to my son, treating him just as lovingly as she treated me and her own kids. She could have had any man she wanted, but she chose to make the kids a top priority in her life and honor her husband every day in everything she did.
And for the record, she always smelled like a million bucks... I will never forget her perfume and soap scent, she taught me everything I know about sophistication.

I have to say my own mother has been someone I've always admired. She grew up as a "hick from the stix" as my grandmother used to say, but to my mother that was never an excuse not to be a proper lady. She attended modeling school when she was a young woman, and learned all she need to know about beauty and grace. She always looked immaculate when she left the house, and she was always a kind and loving woman. Beauty inside and out, and that's what she tried to teach her daughters.
She's closing in on her retirement now, at 67, and she still looks at least 15 years younger and carries herself with confidence. I admire her quite a lot.

My grandmother would be the perfect mother to win this for. Sadly she's no longer with us. She liked to think of herself as a New York socialite and she never left the house without her hair perfectly style and her lipstick on. She was barely 5 feet tall but she projected elegance. She grew up in an era where women dressed up in such classy outfits, the fact that she works in a male dominated industry to this day must signify not only the fact that she is a powerful and working woman and mother but also the fact that she must command the respect of her colleagues. She is always so polished when she chooses which business suits to wear to meetings, and she stresses the importance to look flawless with ease (in that you don't need to put hours and hours into making yourself look "perfect")

Of course I know that "sophisticated" is subjective, but I think my mom is sophisticated bc she says what she means and she means what she says and she does this without offending people. I think many women lack that and do and say things that just please other people and not themselves.

My mother grew up in a miserable home with a detached and uneducated mother. She was determined that she would raise her children in a happy, healthy home. I don't know how Mom knew to teach me to never leave the house without blush and lipstick. Her best advice for dressing: "Put on all the accessories you plan to wear, and take off all but 2; either a bracelet or necklace, but not both". The more important advice that she gave me that has served me in every situation all my life and always will was: "A lady is a woman who is gracious enough to make everyone feel comfortable around her all the time, no matter what the circumstances".

My mom has grown from being born extremely poor wearing the same clothes and darned socks and teaching my brother and I to be frugal and working hard for our Nikes and our Lancome! She went from an Arizona State Deaf and Blind school bus driver to working in the office and catering to every single child, parent and employee on the entire campus! She's smart and beautiful and never walks out of the house without looking fantastic and smelling like flowers or candy! She never walks out the door without makeup on or without her hair fixed. She's 54 years old and didn't have her first wrinkle until she was 50! She's gorgeous and taught me how to take care of my face, skin and myself. She puts others first but makes sure she takes care of herself too! She was not able to have perfume and expensive jewelery growing up, now that she has spent her whole adult life raising my brother and I and taking such good care of my father, he purchased her a 5 carat, 25 diamond ring on their 25th anniversary! She's taken care of now and I buy her the "good stuff" any chance I get. Until I turned 27 she had never owned any makeup but the store brand! I introduced her to Lancome and Clinique and finally, she wears makeup that lasts longer than an hour! She taught us to get what you can afford and give to others and it will come back to you!
