Poll: Is Going Bare a Dare?

In the past few weeks it seems like every media outlet is talking about women going make-up free. Our friends at Stylelist made mention of it recently. And if I I recall correctly there was a buzz about the price of beauty when a certain former real housewife appeared on the cover of Marie Claire a few months ago sans photoshopping. And there was an hour of morning talk dedicated to the fact that the hosts were bare-faced (and for some reason puffy?). Heck, even PerezHilton in all of his beauty-knowing glory has been posting more shots of posted a few celebs au natural in the face than usual. So what's causing this blip in the zeitgeist? I'm not so sure. But I've got a confession to tell: I don't always wear makeup to the office. Yes, I slick on the gloss (can never be too long without my trusty lips shine) and highlight over any dark spots, but blush sticks and lengthening mascara sometimes get the heave-ho in the AM. Now, meetings, events and interviews always get the full-on face treatment. Although those days I just want to watch the game, I'm just one of the boys. Your turn to share: Do you think going make-up free is a dare or a do? --Jenna Mahoney

Oh please. Heaven forfend we should show our hideous unpainted faces to the unsuspecting world? Makeup is a fun accessory for highllighting features and/or expressing onesself artistically, but to imply that women can't be seen without makeup is so totally 1950s! I am comfortable in my skin, and go out however I please (clean and clothed is a given). My face is my face and how I choose to adorn it or not is up to me.

Shame on Sephora for being yet another media force trying to shame women!

I think bare is a must! I mostly dont wear makeup unless I feel like it that day or Im going to be doing something special. I am a makeup fiend and have way too much of it but much of the time I am just too lazy to make myself up on the morning. It is important for women/girls to be comfortable in their own skin. There's a girl I know who feels really naked and insecure when she isnt made-up. Kinda sad.

I always wear makeup. It makes me feel polished and like I am putting my best self forward. I wouldn't leave the house with my hair wet and un-styled, and the same goes for my face. I don't think anyone has to wear a lot of makeup, just enough to enhance your features and sometimes that's just evening out your skin tone, using mascara and maybe some lip gloss and blush. I don't know many women who look awesome with absolutely no makeup on, but to each their own :)

Despite my sometimes overwhelming makeup collection I go more often without than all made up. It can get to be kind of a hassle, and most days I'd rather not bother. Often if I'm wearing makeup it just eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner. I typically only do the full face treatment if I'm having a really bad skin day or an event of some kind.

Those I know who insist on putting on makeup before going to run to the store for milk are those with confidence issues. As in, they have none.

I am a real makeup and skincare product junkie, but even I go without many times. I always wear makeup to work, or out with friends, but if I suddenly decide to visit the gym or the grocery, etc...then I have no problem leaving the house without makeup on. Those times the only thing I worry about is if my hair is combed and my teeth are brushed.

I used to go without almost all the time. Then I started wearing makeup more, and realized that 9 times out of 10, it's more for me than for anyone else. When I look polished I feel better. However, there are still days where I will only throw on some mascara and go au naturale elsewise.

I think most real women (not celebs or those in the appearance business) go without, or close to without, makeup on most days. The reason celebs going without makeup is "news" is because they don't do it. Then again, if I had a makeup artist to do mine, I'd be wearing it a lot more!

I believe the author of the article was referring to the whole nine yards with everyday makeup application (primer, foundation, powder, eyeshadow etc...) A dab of concealer under the eyes, a swipe of blush and some mascara hardly constitutes a full face of makeup. Those are the only 3 I use and I consider myself a non-makeup wearer. I think most would agree (especially men) that bare is beautiful. There's a time and place for "complexion perfection" and it's definitely not while running to Starbucks to grab a decaf, non-fat, no foam latte :)

Going bare is definitely a do. Makeup is just there to accentuate your features and bring out your inner beauty. It's not there to transform your face by caking on lipstick, shadow, blush, and foundation. It's to make yourself more presentable! :)

So if going bare is the new trend... then skincare is going to be really important. I wear makeup when my skin tone is uneven, when I breakout, etc. But... if I invest in the right skincare to make sure I don't have these probs to begin with, well then, yeah bring on the no-makeup-life! however, i will NEVER go out in the sun without SPF. my god, the sun is the source of skin damage.

i agree with the above anonymous poster. good skincare is an absolute must, whether you go with or without makeup. but part of good skincare includes those days you go out without ANY makeup on, as i'm sure our skin needs to breathe every once in awhile. if we kept makeup on our faces 7 days/week it'll ruin our skin tone once we get older :x best to go without it on the days that you know you definitely won't be doing something extravagant :)
