The latest addition to our assortment of high-tech tools comes from a cosmetic and esthetic company based in Southern California. NuFACE is a skincare tool that works to lift and tone your face while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Carol Cole, a licensed esthetician and nearly 30-year veteran of the skincare industry, wanted to create a skin toning device that clients could use from the comfort of their own homes. So she teamed up with a group of skincare and product experts to construct this cute-yet-highly-effective handheld tool. Using breakthrough micro-current technology, a low-level electrical current that stimulates your facial muscles, it aids in skin rejuvenation and effectively tones to give you lifted, firmer-looking skin.
The electrical stimulation is a very low level, so it’s perfectly safe to use on yourself, every day. Just five minutes of use is all you need to for a noticeable improvement in skin, and long-term results can be achieved with regular use. They’ve released one tool for now—in both white and pink—and it comes with two gels to use with the tool, an instructional DVD and manual, and tip cards so you can make the most out of your NuFACE. Don’t be afraid to take into age-fighting into your own hands.

Tweezerman Celebrates the Big 3-0 and Partnership with Betsey Johnson
Tweezing just became a prettier beauty chore, thanks to the collaboration of Tweezerman and Betsey Johnson. At the launch party held last week in New York, we caught up with both the CEO of the beauty tool company and the designer herself to learn more about this pretty partnership. The collection features three precision Slant Tweezers decked out in Betsey Johnson's iconic prints: Betsey Bud, Betsey Bones and Betsey Babe.
These pretty prints are exclusive to Sephora on September 1, but already available on sephora.com. So snag yours now (and those pesky hairs!) before they sell out.

The Importance of Perfect Brows
I did it. I finally did it. I had my eyebrows waxed by a professional (and absolutely darling woman) yesterday. I’ve always been a self-tweezer, albeit a poor one, but I finally came to the realization that I needed a little help after seeing a friend with newly waxed eye accents. For the last four weeks, I have endured the awkward growing of my brows—lucky for me, I have bangs that can cover them up. At long last, I feel like a whole new lady.
Now that I have made the investment in this new must-have accessory, I need a few tools to keep them looking lovely. My top picks (and newest acquisitions) are below:
Benefit Instant Brow Pencil
This goes on smooth without needing any pressure. The texture is creamy and the color (deep is my preference) is rich. This is a must for filling in the sparse areas and the spoolie is great for brushing them into place.
SEPHORA COLLECTION Eyebrow Trimmer & Brush
Save space with this two in one tool. Brush with the comb and trim the unwanted hairs as you wish. The comb is easy to remove and helpful, as it doubles as a guide to prevent from over-trimming.

Anastasia Brow Gel
Once you perfect them, you want them to stay put. This tames the unruly hairs and keeps them in place, while conditioning with healthy botanicals.
What’s your must-have tool for brow perfection? Do you tweeze, wax, or trim—fill us in!

In Defense of the Full Brow
Page seven of Sephora's Fall 2010 Beauty Report has sparked much controversy in our office. In the lower right corner is a gorgeous model sporting very thick, very long brows. This trend we're championing has sparked a heated debate. Is this brow statement hot or not? To which B&TB says, neither. We declare they're avant-garde, and by that we mean cool, smart, and conceptual.
Angular, architectural brows let you stand out from the crowd in a sophisticated, I-collect-minimalism-art-and-wear-unisex-shirts kind of way. They are a striking complement to fall's no-frills barely-there face. If you've got flawless skin, and you want to showcase your lit-from-within, milk-and-honey complexion, these bold brows put all of that in relief. It's the thinking woman's smoky eye, we dare say.
p.s. One word of advice from Beauty Adviser, Theresa. She suggests not using a shade darker than your brows to avoid a harsh look. Start with a taupey shade and dial up or down depending on your hair color.
Get the look here from brow guru Anastasia.
Tried + Tested: MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Intense
One swipe, total saturation. That's the payoff you can expect from MAKE UP FOR EVER's new Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick. Available in 50 shades that range from wearable to wildly dramatic, this highly pigmented formula also boasts 3 finishes: matte, pearl, and satin. This usually-bare-lipped editor tried #41 Satin Rust, which garnered multiple compliments from co-workers. I now feel so empowered I think I might just track down other shades that push the envelope, too, like #17 Pearly Gold or #49 Satin Blackberry.

5 Fun Facts: Lancôme
What began in 1935 as just a fragrance line is now a powerhouse in the world of skincare and makeup. Lancôme infuses advanced science and technology into their formulas to create cutting edge products: Their mascaras display state-of-the-art technology, their skincare a godsend for those looking to reduce signs of aging. Here, some facts you may or may not know about this iconic French brand.
1. Génefique Youth Activating Concentrate took 10 years of research to perfect and was tested on over 4,400 genes. The formula is made up of seven different patents.
2. Lancôme scientists are beginning to use yeast extract in many formulas for its ability to provide skin with a look and feeling of fullness.
3. The Définicils High Definition Mascara brush has short bristles on one side to deposit the mascara, and longer bristles on the other to deliver it evenly throughout the lashes for serious volume.
4. Their newest line of skincare, the Volumetry collection, will have its first neck cream debut in December.
5. One of Lancôme’s newest products for fall is the Teint Miracle, and is comparable to a tinted moisturizer. It’s is made up of 37% water. Expect it to arrive in stores in September, but not on Sephora.com until mid-October.

A New Kind of Upcharge
One reason we all love beauty and booty of products is because no matter our size—makeup always fits. But it seems as though that isn’t always so. Especially in this recent case of the Five Dollar Fat Fee, where a manicurist added a surcharge to compensate for her client’s weight. According to the salon manager, overweight customers put undue stress on expensive pedicure chairs and that supplemental fee is to over any repair costs (which can be up to nearly 3 grand). Now, where I get my nails done there aren’t special fees for women with more calloused feet. Nor are their surprise surcharges for girls with extra-out-to-there nails, so, although I can understand those bouncy massage chairs are darn expensive, I can’t see the reasoning in tacking on a special fee based on someone’s appearance. And I find that especially true when the entire point of manis, pedis, makeup and the like are supposed to enhance our self-esteem, not destroy it. Tag to you lovelies, what’s your take on this special case? Swak –Jenna Mahoney
Introducing: Givenchy’s Blooming Collection
I’ve got flowers on the brain these days. Lately, I’ve felt I need a new hobby and I’m considering a second attempt at gardening—nothing grand, but maybe a couple of little planters on my balcony and a small potted herb garden on my front porch. The only issue with this is that I have a terrible habit of losing interest in things that don’t provide an immediate payoff.
While I consider my commitment to this new garden idea, I’ll seek pleasure in this new collection from Givenchy. The Blooming Collection is the perfect substitute for a bed of roses or row of daffodils. The Le Prisme Blush in Blooming Fuchsias is beautiful, made up of a mixture of pinks and reds in a sort of watercolor pattern. The assortment of lip colors—gloss, satin, or shining finishes—range from apricot and peach to coral and lilac. You can practically smell the fresh cut flowers in these colors.
On second thought, maybe I don’t need any new hobbies for the moment. Who needs a garden when you have a color palette like this? I think I’ll stick to what I know and stay out of the dirt for now.

Tried + Tested: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask
`
Boscia's new Luminizing Black Mask takes everything you love about masks, and amplifies the joys of this beauty ritual. It's a mask for mask lovers like myself.
What makes it so special? It's the viscous black clay - rich with minerals and sourced from France, but some might also say strange. Seconds upon contact, however, you feel that familiar sensation of your face tightening and oil being absorbed. You can rest assured, the detox is working!
In twenty minutes, the mask hardens into an elastic shell. It's bouncy and rubbery to the touch. Like all masks, there's a tangible before and after. But, the most exciting part is that the genius scientists at Boscia have assigned you a major role in your own transformation. As you're peeling off the mask, you're giving yourself a gentle exfoliation at the same time. You start at the forehead, curling the edges to get a firm grip. Then, you gingerly strip it off. It's a preservative-free, industry first that leaves your skin soft, toned, and brightened. It does take some practice.
The first time around most of it peeled off, but some ended up on my eyebrows. On my second use, I was able to strip it off in one go. The learning curve is validating and the results on my skin beauty-affirming! I can't wait for my next application, and that's the true test of a product's greatness.

Which Pronto Dry Shampoo are you?
Three of Sephora's beauty bloggers took a well-needed trip to the Oscar Blandi salon in NYC for some one-on-one time with the stylist to the stars himself. Check out how we went from greasy to gorgeous in just seconds:
Jessica Anderson, Bo Young Lee and Nicole Grippo Ruotolo (from left to right) with second- and third-day strands.
Lastly, Oscar turned Bo Young's limp locks to full and fabulous with the help of Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray. While this product works on all hair colors and types, it was especially great for Bo, since the spray was invisible and didn't need to be blended into her dark hair. Plus, it gave her a boost of volume.

Coming Soon: SUPER by Perricone
Maybe you’ve seen the new ads for this new super food-based brand, or the plethora of blog articles all over the interweb. It’s big news and we’re on the edge of our seats for this one—SUPER by Perricone will be here next week. Doctor and skincare expert, Nicholas Perricone, is debuting a line of antioxidant-rich skincare made from various super foods, which he believes are the key to achieving ultimate health.
Coconut, watercress, green apple, and yogurt are just a few of the ingredients used in this new collection of a dozen products. Watercress works to detoxify your skin and body. Green apple helps to sooth skin and calm redness. Yogurt stimulates collagen synthesis. Coconut is the ultimate hydrator for your skin and body. Dr. Perricone has used these ingredients and more—ginger, melon, red algae, and chili pepper to name a few more—to formulate cleansers and moisturizers, day and night serums, cuticle cream, and body beautifying products like toning serum and leg shimmer.
This line represents Dr. Perricone’s ideals to a “T”: you are what you eat. Why not feed your skin with the healthy foods in your diet? They’re effective when applied topically and ingested, so you’re doing double duty for your skin and body. As the name implies, super foods in super formulas equal super results.

Lip Reading
Our friends at Glo were talking a lot of lip today. And they interviewed a lip print interpretation expert. Yes, you read that correctly! Apparently there is an art to reading one’s kiss and it is likened to palm or tea readings. Although there is no future telling, the thinness, thickness and eveness of your smackers can tell a lot about your personality. Gloss, matte or combo however are not included in the analysis. Take a gander at the slideshow and report back! We’d love to hear if you think the truth is in your kiss! Swak –Jenna Mahoney

Sephora Etiquette 101: No Double Dipping
Sephora is beauty heaven for its endless testing possibilities. We love playing with makeup, but one thing that is not a good look on us, or anyone for that matter, is pink eye. For our sanity, here's a B&TB public service announcement on how to sanitize so everyone can play safely and soundly.
The cardinal sin at Sephora is double dipping. Once a brush or applicator has touched you, no matter how clean you think you are, you must not use it again to grab product from the testers. Follow that rule, and we promise you'll be our dearest, most loved client.
To avoid double dipping, we've devised very clever ways around it. To test colors in compacts and palettes, take a clean applicator and scrape off the top layer of product. You don't know where that's been. Once you have the fresh, untouched layer, use a cotton round or tissue and rub off the color you want. Now, you can work off the cotton/tissue rather than the actual compact. Isn't that brilliant?
For lipsticks and pencils, spritz ends and tips with alcohol and either scrape off the top or sharpen them. With lipstick, do not apply directly on your lips. Instead, use a clean applicator. Ditto for mascara. There are brushes in clear chic containers next to all the mirrors. While we know the wand has amazing features, you'd be spoiling it for everyone else if you used it directly on your lashes. Practice mascara karma!
For pencils, we recommend that you not apply directly on your face, but rather the back of clean sanitized hands. Need to clean your hands? You'll see hand sanitizer everywhere in our stores. Use it before handling testers. If you are applying on your eyes and lips, we suggest you have one of our beauty experts help you clean the products, or come for an Express Service where we'll use our clean brushes to apply your makeup.
You're always welcome to ask any of our beauty experts to show you how to sanitize testers. We love telling you about the latest makeup trend as much as we love practicing good hygiene. Remember, cleanliness is next to prettiness.
StriVectin: Better Than Ever Before
StriVectin, a popular pioneer of the cosmeceutical world, has recently revamped and redesigned their entire brand. That means new sleek packaging and slight improvements to the ingredient lists.
The newly reformatted products include the StriVectin-SD™ Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks & Wrinkles, Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles, and Instant Retexturizing Scrub. Their chief scientists have added antioxidants and more botanicals, and infused the formulas with more collagen-boosting peptides to create even more new patents. Each new formula contains one of their patended award-winning molecules, Niacin, which generates energy, stimulates DNA repair, and holds moisture longer. More than ever, these products are proving to fight signs of aging and repair skin while enhancing the healthy production of collagen.
StriVectin’s latest clinical trials reveal the following results after using their products twice a day for eight weeks:
Week 2: Natural collagen resurging; texture and resilience improving
Week 4: Natural cell turnover intensifying; visibly fading discolorations
Week 8: Elasticity reinforcing; wrinkles and stretch marks visibly diminishing
It’s serious science working to better your skin in less time. Four newly reformulated and redesigned StriVectin-SD products are now available, but keep your eyes peeled for more developments from the StriVectin lab. Be sure to stay tuned for some “Tried + Tested” stories on these new formulas.

Tried + Tested: Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection

Never underestimate the sense of smell. Scents trigger memory more vividly than the senses of sight or hearing. And according to scientific studies, women rank how a man smells as the number one determinant for whether she’ll be (sexually) attracted to him. I decided to lasso four of Sephora’s own energetic and strapping men that work here at the corporate offices and had them experiment with Ralph Lauren’s exciting Big Pony men’s fragrance collection. The score on the new generation of Ralph Lauren’s four playful new colognes? Goals all around!
Scott Lea, the handsome jock from Sephora’s IT department, found that his signature scent was the sporty blue Big Pony #1. “The scent has a fresh, citrus smell to it. I put some on after my runs and workouts or when I head out for some drinks with my friends.”
Big Pony #2 was the favorite of Sephora’s southern gentleman, Mike Chauvin. “I dabbed some on when I recently had a romantic date night with my honey. She loved how RL #2 had notes of dark chocolate and musk. She found the scent incredibly passionate and sexy.”
Danny Vargas is a popular man at Sephora’s corporate campus, and the green Big Pony #3's rush of mint and ginger is the perfect match to the adventurous Vargas. Whether rushing to play in his soccer game, going camping in the wilderness, or tending to his newborn baby, Danny turns to Ralph Lauren’s crisp-outdoorsy fragrance. “The scent of RL #3 gives me the perfect rush!”
And last but most certainly not least, is the fashionable guy of Sephora’s Merchandising department, Josh Brown. He's everyone’s buddy, always dressed impeccably, always invited to the latest happy hour at the coolest lounge, and always sporting Big Pony #4’s stylish blend of mandarin and unique kyarawood. “I never forget to put some on when heading out for a night on the town with my girl—gives me that extra energizing boost and edge,” he tells me with a wink.
Ralph Lauren’s Big Pony fragrances: Four different blends that are a definite hit with our four Sephora team players. Advice from them and from the ladies at Sephora: Giddy up and race on out to purchase these sexy scents. They've got game. —Joyce Dulanas
5 Fun Facts: Perricone MD
Dr. Perricone has always referred to himself as the healthy antiaging expert. People obsess over his products, but some hesitate over the smell—DMAE, the main ingredient in every Perricone product, has a particular scent when used in high doses—but don’t be alarmed. It’s the smell of efficacy! Dr. Perricone prides himself keeping formulas effective and refuses to alter them to mask smell. Get to know a little more about this doctor brand with a few fun facts.
1. Dr. Nicholas Perricone is a certified dermatologist, nutritionist, and scientist. He received the Eli Whitney Award in 2002 for his contribution to science, innovation, and technology.
2. The Cold Plasma family is growing—in addition to the original Cold Plasma Face; you can now get Cold Plasma formulas for your eyes and entire body. Keep checking back for even more Cold Plasma additions.
3. The Cleansing Treatment Bar is his answer to a scrub. It’s great for face and body, and gently exfoliates while cleaning.
4. He has authored five New York Times bestsellers.
5. He partnered with NASA to create the Cold Plasma formula. It took five years of research to complete.

Beauty Calls: How to Wear Faux Lashes

Q: Faux lashes have been on my radar, but I'm pretty late to this beauty party. What do I need to know to wear them out this weekend?
A: Once you get used to wearing falsies, our lash bar might just become your best beauty friend. It's fast and easy, and makes a huge difference without a lot of investment.
Temporary lashes come in a multitude of styles so the first thing you'll need to determine is which type is best for your personal style.
For a natural look, there are individual lashes, small clustered fans that can be applied anywhere. If you're going for something more dramatic (or if individual lashes require more hand-eye coordination than you have), your other option is the strip lash. It comes in varying thicknesses and lengths ranging from natural to stage-show outrageous.
Once, you've decided on the perfect pair, follow these six foolproof steps.
Step 1 Prep your lashes: Apply a few coats of mascara to your lashes.
Step 2 Prep your falsies: Do a dry run by holding lashes up to your eyes to see if they need to be trimmed. If they appear to be too long for your lash line, trim a small amount from the outer corners. Then, bend the lashes into a U shape to make them more flexible.
Step 3 Glue: Take a small amount of lash glue on a toothpick, and apply a thin layer to the strip. Wait about 3 seconds to let the glue get tacky. Patience is key.For individual lashes, use tweezers to dip the bottom, which will be attached to your eyelid into glue and apply to the base of your natural lashes. Note: glue may appear white initially, but will dry clear.
Step 4 Attach: Apply as close as possible to the lash line, and press down from the middle of the eye to the corners.
Step 5 Open: Swipe on a few more coats of mascara to get the lashes to hold in place.
Step 6 Camouflage: Outline your lash line with a liquid eyeliner for a seamless look. And voila, it's a homerun! You've batted yourself a beauty. - Theresa

How Low Will You Go?
Um, er. This is sort of an embarrassing thing for me to even *think* about, never mind write about it in the world wide interweb. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the lady-blog topic du jour: Vatoos. Everyone from Racked and Refinery 29 to Jezebel and pretty much everyone I follow on Twitter is yapping about the latest way to paint up your, um, you know. And yes, they are exactly what you are thinking—tattoos on the lady bits. (Ok, technically, it is a paint job on the nether region). Out, out is the bedazzle on the ho-ho and in, in is the stays for a week painted-on design. So, what do you think? Worth it or is this something that is better left under wraps? –Jenna Mahoney (oh and I'm well aware that people would call me prudish, but I believe the private stuff should be exactly that.)
