Fashion's Night Out According to Maja Ivarsson

Last night, thousands of beauty mavens poured into the streets of New York City well into the night to shop, meet industry insiders, and watch star performances. Sephora was no exceptionwe had nine of our NYC stores open late and buzzing with spectacular beauty events. But don't take it from us, take it first-hand from Maja Ivarsson of the Swedish hit group The Sounds, who performed live alongside Kat Von D at our Sephora 5 Times Square location and shared her experience with us.

B&TB: Congratulations on an amazing performance at Fashion's Night Out. Tell us about the overall experience, the energy of the night, and more details about the band you put together.

MI: It was an amazing night! I had so much fun playing with Kat. I was honored to be part of it, and it was really nice to play with someone different. And I already liked the song "November Rain" that we covered. Kat is such a cool, genuine girl who's been supporting our band for a long time, so it was a no brainer for me when she asked me to perform with her.

B&TB: What was the best part of the night for you?

MI: The whole night was great. Of course, the performance part is always special. I had a good time meeting Kat’s wonderful fans as well.

B&TB: What was it like performing with Kat for Fashion’s Night Out and how long have you two been performing together?

MI: It was a lot of fun performing with Kat– she's a great piano player. This was actually the first time ever we actually did something like this together, so I was a little nervous but that’s only good nervousness. It keeps u on your toes. :-)

B&TB: We heard you came all the way from Sweden for this special event. What was it about this specific event that attracted you to participate?

MI: It was really all about Kat. She's been a great friend to all of us at The Sounds for a long time, hanging out with us on tours, coming out to our shows, etc. I thought performing at Fashion’s Night Out sounded like a great experience that I wouldn't want to miss for the world. And it gave me an excuse to hang out with her in wonderful New York City.

B&TB: What’s next for you?

MI: Our band released our 4th album in the spring called Something To Die For, so we have a long fall tour coming up soon. It spans from October 12th- November 22nd, and covers the United States and Canada. We love touring in North America, so I'm excited.

B&TB: How would you describe Fashion's Night Out in one word?

MI: Awesome!

Other cool highlights of the night? Tarina Tarantino arriving at Sephora Union Square on a moped, a line wrapped around the block to get a peek at YouTube Sensation Michelle Phan, Josie Maran’s campaign shoot at Sephora Times Square, and Solange Knowles drawing a crazy crowd while spinning records in the windows of Sephora 5th Avenue. Plus (of course) products, products, products.
