Introducing: KeratinPerfect

A revolutionary new hair brand is breaking the mold for at-home haircare. As a convenient alternative to salon treatments, KeratinPerfect delivers keratin to your hair, leaving it noticeably softer and smoother. Keratin is a natural protein found in skin, hair, and nails, although KP gets theirs from sheep’s wool, which is noted for having the highest grade of keratin possible.

Using a unique blend of ingredients, KeratinPerfect has performed countless tests to ensure their formulas fall in line with chemical and cosmetic guidelines. Once they get ahold of the natural keratin, they combine it with a special ReBonding Technology so that the protein will bond with any damaged areas. The outcome: shiny, smooth, and frizz-free hair. Though these formulas are made to offer superior straightening and smoothing benefits, results may vary for those with more coarse or textured hair. Lucky for us, their hair-smoothing treatment is safe to use as often as every two weeks.

Still have questions? Read below for some frequently asked questions and learn about the benefits of KeratinPerfect, available exclusively at Sephora.

Can I use shampoo and conditioner after the treatment?
No, it’s important to use specially formulated products, such as the PerfectCleanse Keratin Enhanced Shampoo and PerfectSilk Keratin Enhanced Conditioner. These special formulas will replenish keratin levels. They’re free of sodium chloride and sulfates to maintain smoothness and shine. Non-keratin formulas may strip the treatment from your hair and reduce results.

What if my hair is colored?
No problem. KeratinPerfect suggests you apply highlights before the treatment. This will help the color stay longer and look more vibrant.

How long until I see results?
You’ll notice a difference in your hair’s texture and appearance after using the blow dry and flat iron during ThePerfector application process of the KeratinPerfect set.

What daily tools should I use to style?
KeratinPerfect recommends using a ceramic or ionic dryer and 380-450° flat iron for styling. Their own titanium flat irons are specially designed to straighten and smooth without damaging hair.

How much product should I use?
It’s important not to over saturate your hair. Applying too much will make hair greasy and heavy. If you have short, chin-length hair, use 1-1.5 oz. If you have shoulder-length hair, use 1.5-2 oz. And if you have long or very coarse hair, use 2-2.5 oz.

On My Vanity: Giuliana Rancic

We met the lovely Giuliana Rancic yesterday night at Sephora's DDF event at the Beverly Center. She has red-carpet glamour perfected with her gorgeous highlights and sunkissed glow, so we had to ask the TV host of E! News and founder of women's lifestyle site, Fab Fit Fun, for her beauty tips. She swears she's low maintenance, and even has proof: A picture of her very spare bathroom vanity, and her morning routine in her own words.

"I have a busy schedule, so I try to keep my morning routine quick and easy. I look for multi-purpose products that are long-wearing, affordable, easy to use, and travel-friendly. My latest obsession is the DDF Revolve 400X Micro-Polishing System—it’s incredible! It actually helps polish away imperfections, making my skin look absolutely beautiful. I can skip foundation now. It's literally simplified my makeup routine. Following this, I apply an SPF moisturizer and eye cream—you’ve got to make sure your lids are protected from the sun too. Then, my simplified routine includes curling lashes, applying mascara and eyeliner in black, bronze eye shadow, nude lipstick, and LORAC's Blush/Bronzer Duo in Hot & Spicy."

Tried & Tested: Bare Escentuals Pretty Amazing Lip Color

I don’t consider myself easily impressed, so when I read the name of the latest lip release from Bare Escentuals, I wondered if would really hold up. Sure, all eight of the pink and red lip colors were pretty, but “amazing” is a strong word. Would they be truly amazing? After trying three of the shades (Courage, Moxie, and Free Will), I can attest that, yes, they are truly amazing.

These are ultra-creamy lip colors, not glosses; so don’t be fooled by the tube-like packaging. The applicator is spongy and curves to your lips, so it disperses plenty of color. In fact, they’re so highly pigmented that one swipe was plenty. And it does more than just add color, providing lips with nourishment and moisture. Pretty Amazing is one of the longest-lasting lip products I’ve used in awhile, cutting down my reapplies to only a few throughout a full day (including after lunch).

And I’ll repeat: This is not a gloss. Though it may provide a little shine, the closest comparison to this unique product is probably a lip stain. It’s rich and creamy, but lightweight and hydrating. So in short, it has all the good qualities of every different lip product in one little tube. Next up to try: the bright, bold fuchsia Ambition.

Get the Look: Tarte NeutralEYES Palette

Eye shadow palettes are always among my favorite new arrivals. You get a handful of great shades in one set, oftentimes with an added bonus or two, likea mascara or liner. The latest palette from tarte, the NeutralEYES Natural Eye Palette Vol. II, is the latest one that I’m coveting. Equipped with 10 neutral shadows, a double-ended brush, eyeliner, and primer, it’s everything your eyes need to look gorgeous in so many ways. And that's exactly what brand founder Maureen Kelly set out to do.

"Creating the palette shade range was easy,” she says. “I chose colors like matte pink cashmere, matte butter cream, and shimmering whisper pink so that they would work anytime, anywhere. During the summer months, I wear neutral tones and focus more on a bright lip or cheek. What's great about this palette is that I can wear just a wash of taupe during the day and dress it up for evening with a brown-plum smoky eye."

And what's outside is just as cool as the shades inside: "Since we created a neutral palette with bare-naked natural shades, we really wanted the reusable packaging to be chic and colorful for summer,” says Maureen. “In true tarte style, we maintained our purple vibe, but updated it to reflect a fashionable clutch. The pop of turquoise and touch of animal print just reminded me of summer. I personally adore anything with a zipper embellishment."

Try out Maureen’s favorite NeutralEYES look for night with these expert tips:

Tried + Tested: Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy

This is one creature comfort I can't live without. Yves Saint Laurent's glossy lip balm makes you feel both youthfully carefree and utterly sophisticated. For starters, it has a mouth-watering mango scent, reminiscent of my favorite gummies.

The bouncy texture might be like your very first lip balm, but the formula is the most advanced on the market. It's enriched with hydrating hyaluronic acid spheres and nourishing rosemary and pomegranate extracts. My shade, 04 Pomegranate, is a bright sheer pink that gives lips a pillowy-soft, just-bitten tint.

It's the closest that cotton candy pink will ever get to being a world-wise neutral.

The packaging, too, is pretty. Of all the lipsticks I own (and I have an arsenal of over 20), this one is the most luxe. The middle, where the cover and base pull apart, is emblazoned with four gold YSL logos.

The chrome metal tube has a nice heft to it, and it's stunningly gorgeous when you bring it out—no matter if it's from your back jean's pocket or the inner pocket of your Yves Saint Laurent clutch.

Introducing MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Liner

Whether you’re hanging out poolside or spending the day at the beach, it’s important your makeup is able to withstand any hot-weather activities. MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua products are formulated to stand still against any climate, perspiration, or long nights. The latest addition to their waterproof collection is Aqua Liner, a super sleek liquid eyeliner, available in 15 vibrant shades ranging from iridescent red to matte brown to black with multicolored sparkles. It flexible foam tip for easy application and the formula stays on for what seems like forever. (I rubbed my eyes, forgetting I had it on, and it didn’t smudge one bit.) Fun fact: It contains essential amino acids derived from apple juice to promote color intensity.

Here, MAKE UP FOR EVER’s National Educator Jessie Powers shares her four easy steps for achieving a precisely lined eye using Aqua Liner:

1. Draw a thin line of liquid liner centered on the upper lash line directly above the pupil.

2. To create the liner “tail,” choose the end point of your tail slightly above and outside of the natural lash line. Then, with your eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the tail’s end point down toward the outer corner of the lash line.

3. Next, with your eyes open and focused forward, draw a line from the end of the tail connecting it to the liner on the center of the upper lash line. Continue these strokes until the tail is completely filled in.

4. Finally, draw a liner from the inner corner of the upper lash line to the middle of the upper lash line, connecting the two sections.

TEMPTU’s Three Steps to Summer Skin

Get prepped for summery dresses and swimsuit season with TEMPTU’s latest airbrush additions. The new Air pod Face Tan and Tan Prep formulas are easy-to-use tools for achieving a sunless tan. In addition to single pods, they’ve created a limited edition set, complete with both new formulas and their five-star-rated bronzer, called the Summer Skin 3-Step Air pod collection—available exclusively at Sephora. See this set’s results for yourself in the before and after photos below. Here, we have the three easy steps so you can achieve the perfect summer skin, too.

Step 1
Prep the skin with the AIR pod Tan Prep. It moisturizes while removing dead skin cells with a gentle exfoliating blend of lactic and glycolic acids, priming skin for a flawless, sunless tan.
Step 2
Apply the AIR pod Face Tan to achieve buildable color. It contains naturally derived DHA that will deliver a healthy-looking glow in as quickly as three hours.
Step 3
Next, apply the AIR pod Bronzer in Warm Glow for immediate, oil-free color. This will give you an instant bronze glow and won’t reduce the effectiveness or results of the self-tanner.

After
Before
To ensure you get the best sunless tan possible, TEMPTU’s pro makeup artist Cory Bishop, has shared her top tips for using the Summer Skin 3-Step collection:
  • Apply lip balm to your lips to protect them from the self-tanner.
  • After you’ve applied the self-tanner, add loose powder to areas of the skin where there’s friction, such as on your neck and under clothing. This will prevent rubbing and interrupting the self-tanner to ensure an even tan.
  • For a “fresh off the beach” tan, airbrush the AIR pod Face Tan to the highpoints on your face, including the forehead, bridge of the nose, chin, and cheekbones.
  • For a “deep, summer-long” tan, airbrush the AIR pod Face Tan around the outer edge of your face, contouring around the cheekbones, jawbone, and forehead.
  • Use the AIR pod Tan Prep as a “tan detox”—just airbrush on and wipe off with a warm washcloth to help clarify, exfoliate, and prep the skin for a new self-tan application.
  • Apply lemon juice to a cotton swab for cleaning the product off of hard-to-reach areas, such as around your ears. The lemon juice will deactivate the DHA.

Tried & Tested: ALTERNA Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist

I’ve noticed I always have more flyaways in my hair when I’m getting close to needing my next haircut. (Since I have short hair, I get it trimmed every four weeks to keep the shape, so this is basically all the time.) What I really need is something that will keep the flyaways down while not interfering with my daily pomade. To my rescue comes Alterna with their Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist.

This shining mist works to strengthen hair while feeding it with vitamins and minerals. I immediately fell for the scent, due to the healthy dose of organic Indian Gooseberry, which is smells warm, sweet, and very comforting. The Gooseberry is a rich antioxidant that’s been used by women in India for centuries. Packed with amino acids, it does triple-duty for hair: nurturing, moisturizing, and protecting strands.

I tried the mist two ways. First, I sprayed it on after my styling pomade on a couple of occasions. It’s not at all sticky or even noticeably present, making it a great finishing spray. Unlike a smoothing serum, this is ultra-lightweight so that it doesn’t hold my hair down or give me “helmet head.” It feels like a refresher for your hair—as it softens and smooths without leaving an oily finish. The next way I wore it was without any other styling agent. I just blow-dried and sprayed a few pumps—and voilá. While it didn’t supply hold, it gave me a nice relaxed, silky finish. It was the perfect Sunday hair that I won’t be afraid to wear any day of the week. Note: a little goes a long way when you use just a few pumps with each use. You’ll be shining for days on end.

Jennifer Aniston Introduces Her Debut Fragrance

Photos courtesy of Kevin Mazur/Wireimage

Last night, Jennifer Aniston drew a crowd at our Lexington Avenue store in NYC. Celebrating the launch of her eponymous fragrance, exclusively at Sephora, (and looking stunning in a strapless tomato-orange Vivienne Westwood dress) Jennifer met with fans and personally signed their perfume bottles.

When it was my turn to meet Jennifer, I couldn't stop gushing over her beachy-blonde shaggy bob, her flawless skin and of course, her sunny personality and charm.

Afterwards, I pushed my way through the paparazzi and swarms of fans on Lexington Avenue. Outside the store, I spritzed on her fragrance and was instantly transported to the coast of California (where Jen actually drew inspiration from). Even in the middle of all the city action, the fresh citrus notes mixed with musks and florals instantly brought me peace and serenity.

LORAC’s Carol Shaw Gives You a Tan

Carol Shaw, the creator of LORAC, is used to prepping starlets for red-carpet events and giving them rich, natural-looking color to pair with their beautiful dresses. Accordingly, her new SelfTANtalizer Body Bronzing Self-Tanner lotion is her latest go-to for achieving an all-over luminous glow.

“When I use SelfTANtalizer on my clients, they’re able to develop a gorgeous tan, even while walking the red carpet,” says Carol. “This unique formula is infused with natural botanicals and emollients that work to moisturize your skin for a silky-smooth look and feel, while building a gradual, rich-looking tan.”

You no longer need to worry about applying self-tanner with your hands and making a mess with the colored formula. This long-lasting self-tanner comes equipped with a mitt for clean, easy application. “The mitt is genius,” says Carol. “It offers fast, easy, and streak-free application while keeping your hands clean. The formula has a sweet, delicious vanilla scent, unlike some other tanning products that can sometimes smell unpleasant. The body bronzer immediately gives your skin a beautiful, rich tan that doesn't transfer onto clothing.”

How to use:
For best results, apply to clean and exfoliated skin. Squeeze a generous amount of product onto the flocked side of the mitt and smooth it onto the body in a circular motion. Allow the formula to dry before any contact with clothing. Reapply if you desire a darker shade or use daily until you achieve your desired tan.

What Was Your Mom’s Best Advice?

In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, I’m getting a little “it’s class participation time here at B&TB.” It’s time for you all to chime in on your favorite beauty advice from you moms and, heck, grandmothers too. My mother was a natural beauty. She had the shiniest—and longest—deep brown hair. The largest dark eyes and weighed a whopping 90somthing pounds for my entire youth. And my mom was the second tannest woman at the beach—always. Never that leathery tan, she always had just the right amount of sun-kissed to her skin. She taught me and my sister that beauty is effortless and that it comes more from personality than any other. But she also taught us (without knowing it I might add) in the power of embracing anti-aging early. I have distinct memories of wrinkle creams and pink-tinged moisturizers being the only magic potions that occupied her vanity. When I saw the television advertisements for them I realized exactly the power they had and I was convinced that they were responsible for making my mom younger and cooler than the others. These days, I goop and dab as much anti-aging creams, serums and unable to be identified items on my face in the hope that I’ll also stay wrinkle free (and hip). Your turn—what’s the best beauty advice you got from mom? Swak –Jenna Mahoney

We Celebrated Earth Day with Josie Maran

This Earth Day, Sephora celebrated at our 5th Avenue location by giving clients eco-chic makeovers from Josie Maran's talented beauty team. Guests also quenched their thirst with fruit-infused water from Hint and caught a peek at the spring/summer organic fashions from Ali Hewson and Bono's line EDUN—a brand committed to fair trade. Later that evening, Josie joined Marie Claire's beauty and health director, Ying Chu, for a Q&A session about the latest green beauty trends. You can check it out in our video posted below.

This homegrown-beauty maven truly practices what she preaches. Josie recently teamed up with Women's Earth Alliance, an organization that assists female community leaders worldwide to address issues like food and water safety. For every "like" on her sephora.com Argan Oil page, Josie will donate $1 to Women's Earth Alliance. Once again, Josie proves it is easy to be green.

Tried & Tested: Bliss Poetic Waxing Strips

This last weekend, we had glorious weather here in San Francisco. It was an unexpected beach weekend. Unfortunately I had not prepared for a bikini-wearing weekend and did not make a trip to my esthetician for a wax. What to do? Enter Bliss with the perfect solution to my problem: at-home body waxing strips.

For $36, you get a box of 18 large strips and a small bottle of soothing post-wax care oil. The strips don’t require heating—one of the most painful parts of a wax, in my opinion—but you can heat them between your hands for 15-30 seconds before peeling off if you prefer. I did and would recommend it, as I think it eliminates some pain. Then, you just apply the strip to the area you want to wax, message it in the area of hair growth, and pull! Note of warning: It doesn’t feel amazing by any means, but it’s not that bad. The strips are made with aloe vera and azulene, both of which are soothing ingredients. The included azulene oil also relives any soreness, irritation, and redness, and moisturizes skin, so you don’t get any razor burn bumps or ingrown hairs.

These strips allow for cheaper, easy, at-home maintenance. As Bliss says, they’re the perfect “fast fuzz fix.”

Friends of Sephora: An Easy Way to Give

Imagine being able to increase water quality, food availability and educational opportunities to women all over the world in just a click. Well, you can! Friend of Sephora Josie Maran has promised to donate to the amazing Women’s Earth Alliance when you “like” Argan Oil right here on Sephora.com. How hard is that? Who can’t help but adore the ultra-hydrating, wrinkle-busting non-greasy residue-creating oil that also works wonders in hair? Plus, the packaging is super earth-friendly. And there’s no purchase necessary to help the action-oriented collective. Not only does the WEA unite grassroots women-led initiatives and explore the importance of environmental improvements across the globe, it was also co-founded by one of my oldest friends in the world.(Talk about a real Friend of Sephora!) The program, which will donate up to $25,000 to the WEA, is underway until May 31. –Jenna Mahoney
