Get Bumble and bumble’s Messy Ponytail

A messy pony is one of our favorite hair looks. It’s chic, casual, and looks like you’re just too busy cool to bother. The look pictured here is from Alexander Wang’s spring 2008 runway show and is still one of our favorites right now. It was created by Bb.Editorial Stylist Laurent Philippon to embody "model-off-duty" style. Here, we provide you with the list of what you’ll need and the four easy steps to achieving this stylish, relaxed look.

WHAT YOU NEED:
Tonic Lotion
Surf Spray
Hair Powder
Styling Wax

GET THE LOOK:
  1. To achieve this look, begin by prepping damp hair with Tonic Lotion and Surf Spray to lay the foundation for a wavy, tousled texture.
  2. Blow dry by hand (no brush). To add texture and lift at the roots, spray on a bit of Hair Powder, and then loosen with fingers.
  3. For extra separation, work a dab of Styling Wax through the mid-shafts and ends.
  4. Pull hair back and create a loose, looped bun, secured with an elastic band. Leave some pieces of the hair unsecured for a soft, easy look.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Rita Hazan

Master colorist Rita Hazan knows a thing or two about hair—but what do you know about her? During Sephora's Good Hair Week, we're give you ten things that you never knew about Rita, straight from the stylist herself.

  1. I never take no for an answer.
  2. I knew I wanted to be a colorist from an early age.
  3. I am obsessed with all things beauty, especially conditioning treatments.
  4. I’m currently learning Spanish.
  5. I am Jewish Egyptian.
  6. I love the challenge of correcting bad color.
  7. I don’t like chocolate.
  8. I hate any kind of roots on a woman, which is why I developed my new product.
  9. I’ve lived in the same New York apartment for 15 years.
  10. I LOVE Margaritas.
Interested in doing your own hair color, but feeling uncertain of your at-home-salon skills? Here are Rita's top tips and tricks for perfecting your color from the comfort of your own home:

· When you change your color, be sure to change up your makeup as well. You should choose shades that will compliment your new color.
· Only use products for color treated hair. This will help your hair stay healthy and keep color saturated.
· Use a conditioning treatment once or twice a week, and follow up with a haircut or trim at least once every three months. (This is something I stress to all clients.)
· Slightly change the tone of your color every season or so to avoid falling into a color rut.
· Don’t follow color trends 100% — take a trend and incorporate it into your own color.

Behind the Hair: Curl Expert Ouidad

It wouldn't be Good Hair Week at Sephora without Ouidad, whom we often refer to in awe as the Queen of Curls. She has the secret to good hair, and she's willing to share it with us. See her tips below. What we didn't know is that she's this cool chick who loves fast cars and speaks three different languages. We think you'll agree she wins in both the personality and beauty categories.

10 Things You Didn't Know About Ouidad

1. There is nothing she would rather be doing then spending time with her husband and kids.

2. Opening her salon was determined by the flip of a coin. Her husband wanted to open a restaurant.

3. If she wasn’t a hairstylist, she’d probably be a mentor or teacher.
4. She loves fast cars.

5. She has a flower garden. One of her favorite hobbies is planting flowers.
6. She loves international music.
7. She speaks 3 languages: English, Arabic, and Aramaic.

8. She has a house at the beach and loves spending all her free time (which is not much) there. 9. She loves to travel and her career has taken her all over the world.
10.She started her career styling hair for Broadway productions such as Evita.

5 Tips for Good Hair Courtesy of Ouidad

1. Keep hair hydrated. My most important and crucial tip. Do a deep treatment 1x month.

2. Don’t shampoo hair everyday. Two to three times a week is all you need to keep hair clean and healthy.
3. Finding a great hairstylist is key. Don’t underestimate the power of a great cut
.
4. Never bunch or scrub your hair in the shower – it leads to frizz.
5. Touch up frizzies and flyaways with a little shine glaze. Put a dollop in the palms of your hands, rub together and then run over any trouble spots.

Go Backstage with T3

We’ve long turned to T3 for runway-worthy hair, but there’s much more to these high-tech tools than just great styling. The cutting-edge technology involved in each tool enables them to style faster and easier, and actually improves the health of your strands. Here, we’ve targeted the top benefits of T3 tools and their expert stylists have given us their favorite tips and tricks for perfecting your style.

GET THE FACTS
  • Tourmaline power in a portable iron: Get all the benefits of tourmaline and infrared heat in portable tools that fit in your purse, gym bag, or office desk drawer for anytime styling.
  • Fast, healthy results: It maintains a consistent 410°F temperature delivers shiny, frizz-free results in a single glide.
  • Heat resistant cap: This keeps the iron shut for safe storage and easy traveling.
  • Perfect travel companion: They automatically convert to any country’s voltage from 100-240V for worldwide usage (adapter required).
  • One-hour shutoff: The tools automatically shut off if left unattended to prevent overheating.

STYLING TIPS & TRICKS

FOR VOLUME: The compact size and small plate size make it easy for the tools to style hard-to-reach spots, such near the root of the hair. Lift the hair and place the plate next to the root. Then, create a big arc with the iron while gliding it down the hair. This helps to create a straight, smooth style with volume.

FOR SLEEK & STRAIGHT: If sleek, straight hair is the desired look, place the iron right next to the root and pull the iron straight through the hair section. This will achieve a flatter, sleeker look.

FOR TEXTURE: The smaller iron makes "twirling" the iron down the shaft a breeze, even for novices. This is a great way to create undulating waves, curls, and unique texture combinations.

Friend of Sephora: Tarina Tarantino

Even in the beauty industry, it's very rare to meet someone for whom sparkle is a self-described "state of mind." We got a chance to speak to the one-and-only Tarina Tarantino about her life in the sparkle trenches and her upcoming appearance on QVC, this Thursday, June 16 at 10:00 p.m. PST (or June 17 1:00 a.m. EST).

Beauty & the Blog: You launched on QVC last summer. How has your experience been so far?

Tarina Tarantino: Going live is like nothing I had ever experienced before. The energy and excitement in the studio are amazing. Working with such incredible hosts makes it easier, and I am always in awe by what they are able to do.

B&TB: Do you still get butterflies before going on air?
TT: Yes, I do still get butterflies! But mine sparkle.
I usually relax by catching up with other beauty brand founders like Josie Maran in the green room beforehand. Everyone is so nice and supportive of each other. It’s really an amazing team at QVC, and I always have fun.

B&TB: What are some camera-ready beauty tips?
TT: My new SPARKLICITY Gloss reflects the studio lights so beautifully and makes lips look lush. This is because it visually plumps your lips with the micro-crystalline gems in the formula. I also try to get a really good night's sleep before and drink lots of water. It's cliché, but so true!

B&TB: You have a unique philosophy on sparkle. Tell us about it.
TT: Sparkle is a state of mind.

B&TB: So, how does your state of mind inform your beauty collection?

TT: I feel that adding some shimmer or sparkle brings light, happiness, and beauty to a makeup look. I have formulated my Sparklicity products to give women of all ages a chance to wear sparkle. It contains a micro-crystalline sparkle technology that incorporates crushed diamond dust and gemstones to emulate the sparkle from my jewelry collections.

B&TB: What is the one beauty item you don’t leave the house without using?
TT: Fleur De Lash mascara, it is the ONE thing I wear no matter what. The formula also curls your lashes, so it’s a one-step mascara routine. It stays on all day and does not flake. It is, quite simply, the best mascara on the market and the only one you need.

B&TB: What's the one thing everyone must have from TARINA TARANTINO?
TT: Besides Fleur De Lash, a must-have is my EyeDream Hyperliners. The colors are so saturated and gorgeous; they go on like butter, and set and stay all day. They can be blended out, or worn sharp and defined.

B&TB: Tell us what’s in your makeup bag right now.
TT: Sparklicity Gloss in “Paiette”, DollSkin Blush in Feather, lab samples for upcoming products I am developing, DollSkin powder in #2, Fuchsia Revolution brushes, a toothbrush, my stash of vitamins, gum. And, oh yay! There’s that earring I have been looking for.

B&TB: Since launching your beauty line last year, what adventures has it taken you on?

TT: I have been busy here at The Sparkle Factory developing new jewelry, accessory, and beauty collections. When I am not doing that, I am traveling to press events and promoting the brand. I have also been working on a series of books, and hope to have my first one finished by this fall.

B&TB: Tell us what's next.
TT: An inspirational trip to a magical far-off land.

Stuck On: Fresh Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15

Fresh calls it "nourishment in the nude." I call it "my summer-lip go-to." The newest addition to Fresh's legendary Sugar Lip Treatments, Sugar Honey Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 offers the same conditioning benefits and natural ingredients--with an alluring nude tint.

Sugar Honey is inspired by the creamy organic honeys of Australia. "This shade is like a swipe of warm honey on the lips," says co-founder Alina Roytberg. "It is the finishing touch to a fresh-faced look: enhanced natural lips, a sun-kissed glow, lush lashes, and soft hair."

The universally flattering, buildable shade has also made our current Sephora Hot Now list. Why? The honey-colored balm is spun with sugar, a natural humectant, for an effect that’s positively sweet. It also keeps our lips protected from damaging UV rays with SPF 15.

Like I said: "My summer-lip go-to."

Summer Trends from Stila

Looking to change up your makeup look for summer? Here, Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero shares a few of her favorite trends for the season using Stila’s newest products. Try them out for yourself and start your summer with a new look.

Trend #1: Gorgeous Glow & Healthy Sun Kissed Skin
"The latest addition in Stila’s One Step collection, One Step Bronze, is a sheer formula that tints your complexion. I love natural skintones, freckles, and flushed cheeks peeking through foundation—it looks youthful and fresh to me. This summer, try skipping foundation and use One Step Bronze for youthful, healthy-looking skin."

Trend #2: Bronze Beauty & Bold Eyes
"I love mixing bright, bold waterproof liner with a bit of sparkle on the lash line. The hottest colors for summer are teal, purple, bronze, and pewter. I love to create a bold line on the top and bottom lashes to extend and highlight the eye. Try using a bright shadow with bronze cheeks and sheer lips. Just use a bright shade on one feature and let everything else remain soft and sheer."

Trend #3: Lush Lashes

"Forever Your Curl Mascara creates full, fluttery, curled lashes. This is the perfect formula for stubborn lashes that won’t usually hold a curl. I love the look of fullness and a smooth curled lash for every season. Sometimes it’s great to skip a step and leave your lash curler behind."

Trend #4: Neon Color & Pastel Glossy Lips
"Colorful lips are a hot summer trend. It’s easy to pop a little bright pink on your lips and cheeks, keeping the rest of your makeup bare. Neon lip liners make it easy to change your lip color fast without weighing down your makeup bag. Try Long Wear Lip Liner in Obsessed, a beautiful bright pink shade. Apply it to lips as you would a lipstick for all-over color."

Spotlight: CLEAN Moisture-Absorbent Deodorant

Maybe you haven’t paid much attention to your deodorant’s ingredients. Until now, I hadn’t either. Some deodorant formulas contain aluminum salt, which can irritate those with aluminum allergens—or even just sensitive skin. CLEAN’s answer to this is their Moisture-Absorbent Deodorant. This breakthrough formula contains a blend of cotton-based ingredients to absorb moisture and excess oil.

Cotton Vantage, as it has been dubbed and trademarked by CLEAN, is a high-tech blend of cotton extracts, seeds, and oils that actually self-adjusts to your body. It also works with your body to soothe, soften, and condition skin. The unique combination of natural ingredients work as a time-release formula, so it starts to protect as moisture actually develops. This means, it may feel different from many aluminum-based products and may need some getting used t,o since it doesn’t appear to give results from first contact. It’s very gentle on skin, keeps you fresh all day, and emits a fresh, just-out-of-the-shower scent with CLEAN’s Original Scent.

In the brand’s own sweat tests, CLEAN found that the Moisture-Absorbent Deodorant reduced wetness 18-22% over 6 hours. Many studies have shown most aluminum-based antiperspirants reduce wetness 30-35%. So without aluminum, this revolutionary formula reduces almost just as much wetness. Plus, it doesn’t contain any mineral oils, parabens, sulfates, or animal byproducts. Sounds like everything you need—and nothing you don't.

We've Fallen in Love with Lucky Magazine's Jean Godfrey-June

Sephora's Facebook page is giving our clients a private look inside the makeup bags of four top Beauty Directors who have seen, heard, and tried it all: W Magazine's Jane Larkworthy, Teen Vogue's Eva Chen, Marie Claire's Ying Chu, and Lucky's Jean Godfrey-June.

While reading their collective beauty wisdom, we were completely smitten by Jean Godfrey-June. She has the most unique voice in the industry, and writes about beauty like a wild-eyed poet who has sampled the milk of paradise, discovered it erases her dark circles, and wants everyone to experience her delirious satisfaction. Her writing is so wise, so freewheeling, and so cool. We wish we could have a drink with her and try on makeup with her—possibly at the same time. In the meantime, you can read Jean's high-octane commentary and all of our savvy experts, here, in this feature exclusively on Facebook.

Beauty 101: Boscia's B.B. Cream

We've been hearing heartful testimonials for Boscia's B.B. Cream SPF 27 PA++, a new category of makeup with skincare benefits. They reached a deafening buzz at our morning meeting, where EVERYONE around the table had it on, and the table talk was about how tan, glowy, and refreshed we all look. To tell us more about our new morning makeup ritual, we asked Boscia's brand pro Alyssa Kobel for ten interesting facts on this beauty phenomenon, starting with an explanation of all those initials.

1. B.B. creams originated in Asia and stand for "blemish balms." However, they are also known as "beauty balms."

2. The suffix at the end of Boscia's B.B. Cream "PA++" refers to Japan's PA protection system. It is a grade that measures the level of UVA protection. There are three grades of protection, from least to most UVA protection: PA+, PA++ and the highest level of UVA protection PA+++. This system offers additional UVA ray protection against rays that cause collagen damage and photo-aging.

3. Boscia's B.B. Cream is a physical sunscreen (versus a chemical one) and is better for preventing reactions and skin sensitivity.

4. The self-adjusting shade warms when blended into skin and match a wide
range of skin tones.

5. B.B. Cream diminishes the look of dark spots and evens skin tone with a flawless finish, with active brightening properties that gently correct the signs of aging over time.

6. Boscia's B.B. Cream is oil-free!

7. Like all of the company's products, Boscia's B.B. Cream is preservative-free, including paraben-free, artificial fragrance-free, and color-free.

8. The wave-print packaging is inspired by a traditional Japanese wood block print.

9. B.B. Cream smoothes skin texture, diminishes fine lines, and minimizes the appearance of pores with a “primer” effect that instantly smoothes the skin’s surface while firming properties minimize aging over time.

10. The hydrating formula softens skin and provides a silky, buildable flawless coverage.
