Beauty editors have mastered it. So have the French.
The "it" in question is no-makeup makeup, and it's a focus of our Truth or Bare theme (launching tomorrow). The goal is to achieve sparkling eyes, glowing skin and supple lips, while tricking everyone into thinking you’re wearing barely any makeup (even though you may or may not be wearing lots).
Here, we caught up with New York make artist Tyron Machhausen at our Truth or Bare shoot, to explain how he achieved three easy "no-makeup" looks, each distinctly different, yet essentially barely there.

Mother's Day Video: Sophisticated Mom How-to
She's cultured. She's wise. She knows exactly what she wants, when she wants it—and gets it. Why shouldn't she? The connoisseur of all things pretty, she dons her classy look in style: fresh skin, nude lips, and just-lightly-dusted gray eyes!
Mother's Day Video: Earth Mom How-To
"Green is the new black" is this leading lady's mantra. She cares just as much about what she puts on her body as she puts in it, and stands behind the all-natural products that are as easy on her skin as they are on the environment. And, oh, does it show!

Sneak Peek: Kat Von D's New Sephora Line
We caught up with tattoo artist and LA Ink star Kat Von D at Sephora's press event last week, for a preview of her super edgy new product line (she's wearing it in the video - loving that black green shadow) that will be debuting at Sephora in mid May. Check out the packaging--she designed it herself based on one of her favorite rose tattoos. The lipstick? Only in shades of red. The product names? Totally personal: Her signature palette is named after her cat, Ludwig. And the best part? Kat's so nice and completely unassuming--she actually asked for permission to grab a press comp to show her mom. Um, yes?!

Good Impressions: The Impressionist Makeup Trend
From clothing to the makeup, Impressionism was celebrated on the spring runways by mixing textures and colors to create light and movement. Layers of color and short brush strokes, the hallmark of Impressionist art (think Water Lilies), were especially seen on the eyes. On the runways, makeup artists used purple shadows and many different textures—from matte shadows to highlighters to eye gloss—to create light and movement. Here, we catch up with makeup artist Sylvia Del Orto at our Beauty as Art cover shoot for the skinny on how to score this gorgeous look. For the step-by-step and complete list of products, visit Get the Look: Good Impressions.

Going Dutch: The NeoClassy Makeup Trend
Spring's must-have combination of glowing gold lids and luminous coral lips conjured up the Dutch masters--specifically, Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. Using strong brows to frame the eyes instead of mascara, it's the spring spin on fall's classic red lip look. Here, we catch up with makeup artist Sylvia Del Orto at our Beauty as Art cover shoot for the skinny on how to score this neoclassy look. For the step-by-step, visit Get the Look: Golden Age.

Venus Envy! The Renaissance Makeup Trend
Like a portal to the Italian Renaissance, spring's fashion runways were graced with poetic goddesses radiating with dewy skin and rosy cheeks. Inspired by Renaissance painters like Sandro Botticelli, these modern madonna's personify primavera. "A dusting of vibrant blush [like Benefit's new Thrrrob powder box] on the apples of your cheeks makes you look alive. The effect is sexy, but still innocent, which is right on trend for spring!," say Jean and Jane Ford, co-creators of Benefit. Here, we catch up with makeup artist Sylvia Del Orto at our Beauty as Art cover shoot for the skinny on how to look like a goddess. For the step-by-step and complete product list, visit Get the Look: Venus Envy.

POP ART - Wear the Trend + How-To Video
On the Spring runways, eyes and lips popped with unexpected jolts of Pop Art color—from sky blue lids to poppy red lips. An ode to the Pop Art movement of the 60's, this trend is demanding to be noticed. "This spring, eyes are seen in Technicolor—the look is lighthearted, fun, and comes in a rainbow of hues. I use Flash Color on lids to give women a pop of color that not only looks radiant, but also puts a smile on their face," says Dany Sanz, celebrity makeup artist and creator of Make Up For Ever. Here, we catch up with makeup artist Sylvia Del Orto at our Beauty as Art cover shoot for the skinny on how to pop your look. For step-by-step instructions visit Get the Look: Pop Culture.
